Questions about David Rio Elephant Vanilla Chai, 64 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Q:
Are they still putting those nasty mono diglycerides in it???? same as trans fats...Where's the ingredients list??
Answer: Yup .. they're there .. Ingredients : Creamer (coconut oil, maltodextrin, sodium casinate), Mono and *Diglycerides*, dipotassium phosphate, soy lecithin, maltodextrin {again?}, black tea powder, natural spice blend, sucralose (it's the sugar free version) ... now you have the ingredients
Q:
Is this Decaf Giraffe made with cane sugar or Splenda? It says Splenda near the top title, but in the "ingredients" section, it mentions cane sugar..
Answer: I looked on the bag to be positive and cane sugar is listed (no splenda) honey granules are listed further down the list. My wife loves David Rio chai and was supposed to cut her caffeine intake. this was a real blessing for her.
Answer: I have seen a "sugar free" version of the chai, and like most of those products, it means an added artificial sweetener, vs an absence of sugar. The Decaf Giraffe has cane sugar and honey granules, but thankfully no Splenda or other artificial sweetener! Enjoy,
Answer: Hi boston1an,
Answer: Splenda is no where on our package. It says cane sugar and honey granules under ingredients.
Answer: I noticed that also - but it is not Splenda - it is cane sugar. They should fix that in the ad as more people would purchase it.
Answer: The David Rio Flamingo is decaf vanilla and made with Spenda.
Answer: Cane sugar, per the manufacturer.
Answer: Oops, don't have bag think its cane sugar, the sugar free has splenda
Answer: Sorry , we don't have this anymore:(
Q:
hi, is this chai tea dairy-free?
Answer: My wife purchased this tea some time ago and does not recall if it was dairy free or not. Sorry I could not be of more assistance.
Answer: It is dairy free :D
Answer: David Rio uses a proprietary non-dairy creamer which has no trans fats, no hydrogenated oils and is Whole Foods compliant. The trace amounts of sodium caseinate make it not suitable for vegans, but does not typically create a reaction for those with lactose intolerance. We at David Rio recommend that vegan customers and those with milk allergies try our Power Chai, which is vegan and not only contains the same certified organic spices and quality black tea, but matcha as well! Power Chai is highly concentrated and has a stronger tea and spice flavor than the balanced Endangered Species line. -David Rio
Answer: It contains sodium caseinate, along with coconut oil and ingredients similar to "non-dairy creamer". If your concern is dairy in general, then I would avoid it. If your concern is with lactose-intolerance, then you may be okay drinking this, although trace amounts of lactose may remain in the caseine.
Answer: The power chai with matcha is vegan/dairyfree
Answer: Not this flavor. David Rio does make one vegan flavor, though.

Q:
What's the shelf life of these teas?
Answer: I have kept this on the shelf for 6 months or more with no problem at all. This is by far the best Chai tea I have ever had. People do not believe it is sugar free. So creamy!!

Answer: No, it is a bulk bag of chai powder.
Q:
can you tell me what the sugar grams are for this product per a serving. I have to watch my sugar intake

Answer: There are 23 g of sugar per 8 oz serving for Giraffe Decaf chai.
Answer: The label states there are 23g of sugar per serving.
Q:
Can someone please post a picture of the ingredient list?
Q:
after I mix this I still get clumps of the mix that wont blend. Any hints about how to make the clumps disappear?
Answer: I use very hot water to dissolve the mix and then stir... there will initially be some clumps, but they always dissolve during stirring. I'm sorry.
Answer: I just keep stirring & then use the back of the spoon against the glass/mug to mash the lumps.
Answer: I use a mini whisk. Works great and I whisk as I pour the liquid in.
Q:
Does the chai matcha taste like normal matcha plus chai spices? Does it come with sugar?
Answer: It doesn’t taste too much like matcha to me I expected it to be matcha green in the can but it doesn’t appear green at all. The chai spices in this are amazing. It smells fantastic like Christmas. This is my favorite one because it doesn’t contain any extra junk. Yes there is a LOT of sugar in it. It’s definitely a sugary delight.
Q:
if you buy the large bag can it be stored in a freezer
Answer: I store in air tight glass jars I bought online with AMAZON darker one keep chai better.
Answer: I don't know why you could not. I drink mine up too quickly so just store it in a cannister on the counter.
Answer: I've never froze it but I dont see why you couldn't as long aa its an airtight container.
Q:
Does the tortoise green tea one have more caffeine than tiger spice?
Answer: The difference that I can tell is Tortoise is made with green tea and the Tiger Spice is with Black Tea. Nothing listed on the canister about caffeine. I will say, this isn't very good Chai hot or cold. I have the Tortoise Green Tea Chai, It tastes like you're drinking a powdered creamer.
Answer: I'm afraid there's been a mistake, I've never bought this chai.
Answer: I have never tried it. Sorry!
Q:
Why is the white shark so much more expensive? can you guys fix this (david rio&amazon) please?
Answer: Not sure I did get the larger bag pax 3 lbs which was cheaper.
Q:
How many calories per serving?
Answer: 2 heaping teaspoons (14 servings per container, with 7 oz. of water or milk), my can indicates 120 calories. Of course, I LOVE this stuff and get about 7 servings out of one can. ???? Best stuff out there...and great to have the decaf option!
Q:
What amount of caffeine is in the tiger spice flavor?
Answer: I haven't bought this one in years. My favorite is chai with espresso by David rio.
Q:
How does it taste compared to big train spicey chai
Answer: The only Chai I have tried is the pumpkin. I love it so I keep ordering the same flavor.
Q:
Is this just tea and spices or does it have milk and sugar, about how many cups of tea does it make
Answer: It DOES have both milk and sugar in it and I am looking at my 14oz can that I originally got (before ordering it bulk) and there are 12 servings in the 14 oz can. Hope this helps. The tea is delicious.....I am not a coffee drinker and it's a great alternative on a cold (or not so cold) day.
Answer: It does have milk and sugar in there because it's about 120-140 calories a cup. It makes probably about 30-40 cups of tea I think (it fills up about 3 of the cans- I used it to refill mine). Also it's delicious :D
Answer: It is perfect as is, nothing extra needed. It is my favorite chai tea in the whole world. It's addictive though. The large bag makes a lot of cups of tea, I can't say how many, but would guess maybe 30, not really sure.
Answer: It has all of the above and depending on how strong you make the tea gives you more or less cups
Answer: It has milk and sugar - and I finished off my last bag down here on vacation, but using a scoop that is about 3T it lasts awhile!
Q:
The item description says bag, but does that mean it comes in a bag or canister? Sorry if the question seems silly, someone stated it was in a caniste
Answer: This size is in a bag. They have a 14 oz canister. I kept an old canister and just fill it up from this bag. Otherwise it can be a mess.
Answer: It is a bag, NOT a canister. Perhaps they fill a canister thy already own. That's what I do. I bout the canister one & this bag to refill it with.
Answer: This comes in a bag that is used to refill a canister. The bag you receive is exactly like the picture shown. You might invest in a canister to help keep the bag fresh and so that it is easier to use :)
Answer: The 4lb size comes in a bag. You'd have to order the smaller size to get the canister.
Answer: They changed it to a bag, probably for shipping reasons. My canister often arrived damaged.
Answer: It comes in a bag. The old packaging was a canister.
Answer: Definitely comes in 4lb plastic bag.
Answer: Mine came in a nice cellophane type bag and was sealed nicely. It lasts awhile and I still have a lot in the same bag that I have a clip on.
Answer: 4 lb plastic bag
Q:
Listing says 48 oz, but pic of container says 53.6 oz. which is it? Is this in a canister as shown, or on a plastic bag? Um, seems a little mislead
Answer: There are lots of options. 48 oz comes in a bag.
Answer: Hello, this is 48oz. We apologize for the confusion, we are working on having Amazon update the images. This is a very old image they keep reverting back to. This actually ships as 48oz in a food service bag. Thank you
Answer: I'm not sure why they show a picture of a canister, I've always gotten a 48oz, pouch. Kind of annoying, as it's not resealable, so once it arrives I have to transfer it to a canister so it doesn't spill.
Answer: Sorry, but I've never bought this.
Q:
Why is it cheaper $0.77/ounce to buy smaller cans than to buy 3lb bulk bag ($0.79/ounce)???
Answer: Simple, we don't have a lot of demand for the canisters and what to close them out. We sell lots and lot of the bigger bags, and the canister are in limited stock and when there gone, there gone. We just checked and they are in fact out of stock. The 3 pound bags are $29.95, that is a very competitive price....
Answer: We think bigger is cheaper but I guess not.
Q:
How much caffeine is the elephant vanilla chai?
Answer: It does not list the amount of caffeine
Q:
Where's the nutritional information ?
Q:
Why do you have to put corn syrup in it, there is sugar and honey, it’s like making a delicious food and put pesticides?
Q:
how often do you restock? was hoping to tey out the maple moose but it hasnt been for a bit.
Answer: I buy a different David Rio but a can will last me a month or so. We don't drink it every day. I purchased the three pack and that has lasted us quite awhile.
Q:
Is this chai caffeine free?
Answer: No This Chai is not Caffeine free. The Chai we have that is caffeine free is the DAVID RIO GIRAFFE DECAF CHAI. We do have this item in stock. please feel free to contact me with nay questions or concerns and I will do my best to assist you. Thanks and have a great day.
Answer: It is not. It has caffeine, but it is not like having a cup of coffee. David Rio does offer caffeine free teas.
Answer: It is not caffeine free. It's high test
Answer: no this one is not BUT they do have a decaf version (David Rio Giraffe Decaf Chai)
Answer: No
Q:
Since the first listed ingredient is cane sugar, how does it qualify as sugar-free?
Answer: The first ingredient is creamer. They offer quite a few sugar free items. Perhaps you should read it again. It is only 16 calories, and it is the bomb! Try it with a square of milk chocolate melted in it.
Answer: Creamer is the first listed ingredient and sugar in not listed at all in the ingredients!
Answer: My canister lists Splenda, not sugar
Answer: I agree with you, was wondering the same thing...first ingredient I'm seeing is cane sugar. Dont know what the canister says but this site as of today is saying cane sugar!
Q:
what is the carb conent per serving?
Answer: A serving size is 2 Tbsp and it makes about 1 cup. Carbs are 5g. I bought the regular (not sugar free) style too and the carbs on it is 25g, so that's quite an improvement! Hope this helps.
Answer: The label says 5g per serving, but the serving size says 2 tbsp, but the instructions say add the 2 tbsp to 6oz of water or milk ... the milk would add carbs
Answer: 5g per serving. See entire list of nutritional info on this photo: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/81g1O6vzz0L._SY679_.jpg
Answer: Hi! Only 5 grams per serving. 0 from sugars.
Answer: When I received mine it says eight carbs per serving. They need to update their photo
Answer: 11.9
Q:
how many 8oz cups does a 14oz canister make?
Answer: Depends on how strong you like it.
Q:
If i order this product, will i receive the bag that says "power chai" or "power chai matcha" ?
Answer: The ingredients label says “green tea powder”.
Q:
Why is this so expensive? I used to pay $9.99 for it! Is it unavailable now?
Answer: I don't know about this flavor but I was paying this much when I purchased mine in the store. I do know that I've typically only been able to find the David Rio teas in specialty stores.
Q:
is it gluten free?
Product reviews of David Rio Elephant Vanilla Chai, 64 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Flaxman : Sickly sweet and artificial tasting
This is very sweet and there's an artificial taste from the corn syrup solids, milk powder derivative and other industrial ingredients.
If you're someone who likes coffee with flavored syrups this might just be your cup of tea.
If like me, you'd like real chai, look for something else.
Laine : Natural flavors does not mean natural ingrdients.
I purchased this for my Mother In-Law when she came into town. I thought maybe I would enjoy drinking this with her, but I am not too pleased with the ingredients. This is not natural and it actually has a small amount of trans fat which is the mono diglycerides. This will definitely give you the fat around your waistline!
Amazon Customer : Sigh. Another mediocre chai.
As others have mentioned - this is very bland and light on spice. I've been on a chai hunt for a good couple of months now. The Caffino down the street uses an amazing powder, but they won't tell me what it is and I don't know/control the sugar content. Starbucks and Pete's Coffee are all too sweet orwhatnot, so I continue to try and find a way to make a sugar-free or at least low-sugar version of chai. Which should not be hard - it should really be a container with just tea, a ton of spice, and you add the milk or alternative creamy add-on that you like. I am curious to try the David Rio Tiger but I don't want to pay for a 3lb bag and be disappointed. :P I'm making my way through this (thankfully) smaller container but won't purchase again.
Suzanne : Yuck-o
This tastes like soap! I had this at a hotel when we were in Europe. I was dreaming of traveling and decided to try to recreate my overseas breakfast, so I ordered this chai (same exact one as the hotel in 2019). Yuck-o! This tasted distinctly like soap. I tried it 3 separate days, spaced a bit apart, in case my Spring allergies were messing with my sense of taste or something. Nope, sadly, this mix really tastes like soap.
Patty Washington : Love this Chai tea
Being borderline diabetic I thought I had to give up my favorite drink since most of the brands are full of sugar and the ones that are not don't taste that well. Well that all changed when I found David Rio Mix. It is wonderful
kim : Not Great!
I really wanted to like this, but it wasn’t for me. It definitely has a “fake” sugar after taste. Not good. It does blend really well, but that’s where my positives end. I’d rather make a chia tea bag and add milk. Disappointed!
Ashley Griffith : This chai is my absolute favorite!
This chai is my absolute favorite! Make it hot, over ice or blended, this is your go to chai! Highly recommended and the price for this is great. Usually I add a scoop or two to a 24 ouch cup, add about an inch of hot water to melt the powder, fill the cup with ice and top with a little bit of milk! You seriously can’t go wrong, the taste is so good and doesn’t have that “spice” that some chias do.
JcSailor : Best Tasting Chai Ever
I first tasted this Tiger Chai blend when staying at a resort in Cabo San Lucas Mx. They were using this brand at their coffee stand and it tasted amazing. Ever since then I have been ordering this brand through Amazon. Every time I try and ween myself off (as it does have a lot of sugar) my resolve crumbles and I order another can, which is what is happening today so I decide to write a review and let everyone know how good this stuff is. Don't hate me if you get hooked after trying.
P.R. Collins : A terrible approximation of chai
It has a strange sweet flavor I can't identify. This is in addition to a weak black tea flavor with weak chai spice blend flavor. I'm sorry; I wish it was better. Oh well. I'll drink it all eventually. It's not bad enough to throw out.
CelRangelDesigns : Tastes amazing! But gave me a tummy ache
Flavor was delicious!! I love a good chai latte but am trying to cut down on caffeine so this was absolutely scrumptious! ...however... I did get a horrible stomach ache afterward. I tried it a second time days later to see if it was indeed the powder, and the ache and indigestion came back again. Maybe it’s just me? But if you have a sensitive stomach at all, I would not recommend
Fredick : Not spicy enough...
Not spicy enough.. I got the "Tiger spice". I was looking for something comparable to Trader Joe's Spicy Chai (which is my obsession) but dairy-free and ordered this. I just had a cup and was very disappointed. Nice and aromatic but its lacking that "Spice" which makes chai so enjoyable. If you tend to shy away from chai because its too strong/spicy of a tea, then this one is definitely for you.
***UPDATE***
Contacted the company about it and they said "We can't comment on the strength of that canister without testing/sampling first." Ummm okay... Asked where I lived and such and I replied weeks ago... Have yet to receive a response back after that. I guess they don't stand behind their product. Seems like it's one of those "too bad" kinda thing with them.
Kevin Nhan : HOOK THIS UP TO MY VEINS
I LOVE THIS STUFF. JUST THROW SOME LIQUID IN THERE, MIX IT UP, AND HOOK IT UP TO MY VEINS.
In more serious tones, though, I would HIGHLY recommend buying this. This chai mix is absolutely delicious. I make a cup of it every morning before heading to school/work.
You can make it with water or milk, but I make personally make it with milk (almond milk for me). It makes the chai SUPER creamy. The mix itself is on the sweeter side of chais, so if you're the type that prefers spicy chais, this one may not be for you. It definitely isn't for my friends, but I can't get enough of this.
One thing I would recommend doing is pouring the mix into some kind of air-tight container (or a regular container). The bag has no reclosable top, so if you accidentally tip that bag over, there's no going back...unless. You sweep it off the ground. I guess that's always an option.
OVERALL, I would highly recommend this stuff. It's honestly one of my FAVORITE drinks to make at home and/or buy in a cafe (did I mention a cafe I go to uses this exact mix?)
L : My favorite of all the chia mixes I've tried.
Found this chia at a local crepe cafe and I really enjoyed it a lot. I loved it as a latte with the super frothy milk ( reg milk or even almond milk). --- I bought a milk frother on amazon too and I think its excellent.
What I think of this chia blend- I like this chia blend much much more then multiple others that I have tried both liquid, powdered and loose leaf tea. I've tried may of the highly recommended brands when you do an online search for 'best chia tea or best chia latte.' This one our performed for my taste buds and is much easier to keep and make.
I really like that it is a powder. I don't have to worry about a liquid being refrigerated and using it up in 3 days like it recommends. Also I can put a couple scoops in a zip lock or how ever much and take it on vacations/ day trip/ etc. Im not worried about it spoiling either.
I enjoy that it has a lot of the ingredients in the powder. I don't need to add sugar like I would do to the tea. I don't have to add milk or a milk substitute if I don't have access. If I just have hot water I will just use that and stir it well.
How I do like to prepare mine ---
what you'll need
1. Tall / deep mug that is microwave proof (Why should it be deep? because we will be frothing the milk and it will expand in height significantly)
2. A GOOD milk frother - I will do a review on the one I really like - I found one I hate and one I lovvvvve!!!!
3. A version of the Chia or your chia of choice (I like the tiger spice but Id like to try the decaf one or the sugar free one some day)
4. Reg milk of any %, or any milk sub
Note on reg milk, the higher the % of fat I believe the easier it is for the milk to get frothy/bubbly and remain bubbly over time. Also the higher fat just can taste better for some people.
Note on milk subs--- I've found you can froth almond milk and soy. Although you really must have a good frother and use it correctly but it can turn out great esp with almond milk.
Directions.
Poor whatever milk to about 1/3rd full into your tall/deep microwave safe mug.
Microwave your milk (don't boil it but get it hot)
Take your milk frother and move it up and down in the liquid towards the top. It will start to gain bubbles. Continue until it has at least doubled insize or as big as you want it.
Add a scoop (1.5 is good for me) or more if you like of the powder and use the frother again to mix it in.

Tricia Canton : Deliciously better than expected
I got this for my brother because he loves chai tea lattes from Starbucks, and he said that this was really good. I tried some for myself, and it was actually better than expected. I love that there’s no sugar or caffeine, but it’s nice and flavorful! I mixed it with soy milk, and it was delicious. Highly recommend!
Solar Monkey : Price keeps soaring higher and higher
I have purchased this product 20 times according to Amazon, so I must like it. The big problem is that every time I come back to purchase another, I get this sinking feeling because the price reliably goes up. Last purchase I made was in June, and it was $37.99 a bag. Now it's $52.06 ? That's close to a 50% increase!
I guess I don't like it THAT much after all. David Rio is gonna have to get rich without my help any more.
Done!
life by rebecca anne : Amazing Chia!
If you love to make and drink real Chia Tea the old fashioned way, you will not get that flavor with this product. However, you will get a great flavor! This is wonderful and fast. So if you need a fast Chia Tea fix this will do wonderfully! I will buy this again and I will add some cardamom to it for a little extra kick over the top of my cream. I would recommend this to anyone!!! Love Love Love!
shaun : Yummy
I LOVE this chai mix. I used to work at a coffee shop that used it and fell in love. So glad I’m able to order it here as I have moved quite far from that coffee shop. Has a much richer and deeper taste than Tazo or Oregon Trail chais. Lot of sugar so if you are watching that just be aware and use less mix. Great in all different milks but I prefer whole or almond.
hs2013 : Amazing!!
This stuff is amazing! Obviously not your traditional chai, but that doesn’t matter. I was ordering this every trip to our local coffee house last year. This year it’s under new ownership, and this isn’t one of their offerings. I ended up asking the previous owner what this was because it was THAT good and now I can enjoy this at home. Frothing is definitely a must.
Wendy L. Williams : Delicious, comforting, sugar-free!
Sometimes I miss a spicy warm chi latte, but I can't have the sugar now. I found this and am thrilled! I mix it with hot water and add a splash of half-n-half and feel all warm and cozy on these cold days. I'm very pleased with this purchase and don't miss the sugar chi lattes anymore!
thermalcupid : Smooth light vanilla flavor
This stuff is yummy but what kinda rating is warmth supposed to represent, Its not spicy at all. It mixes easy with hot water, hot milk, and tastes good. I use a table spoon for my chai mochas and it mellows out the chocolate flavor. The vanilla flavor isnt overpowering its pretty smooth. I buy it often as I run out so fast making a couple chai mochas every day or so.
SoloPocono : Vanilla…
I know the green chai and Power Chai don’t mention vanilla; but you can smell it as soon as you peel the top, AND can certainly taste it.
I understand that Western coffee shops, donut shops, many other places that serve chai; have gotten Westerners used to that syrupy sweet vanilla “chai”. This is NOT *REAL* CHAI!
I was taught how to make Masala chai in India by both a street Chaiwalla AND a cook at the ashram I lived and worked at. I have also spoken to cooks at the canteens at Hindu temples here in the US. NO ONE uses vanilla! I have made it, home made, at home, every day for 20 years. YES, it can take awhile, but it’s worth every drop.
In recent months, I developed some serious health issues. While I DO still make my homemade masala chai when I can, (I’ve also perfected a Matcha Chai Latte in recent weeks); I had been hoping to find an easy instant chai, both for home and to take to the hospital with me. Unfortunately, THIS is NOT it.
Oregon Masala Chai (original) is..ok. Natures Guru is much better, but pricy.
If you’re used to and like the taste of the sweet vanilla syrup stuff, like at a popular coffee shop? Go for it. This might be perfect for you. But, for those of us who prefer NO vanilla, and lots of cinnamon, Cardamon, ginger, smaller amts of cloves, allspice, nutmeg, pinch of pepper? Go with the others or make your own.
CoachRHD : Horrible
This product tastes terrible, it does not mix with milk or water- instead it clumps, and it comes in a thin plastic bag, instead of a canister, which means it is difficult to store in the cupboard. I heartily DISrecommend this product.
Also, it is NOT returnable, although it does not say so on the selling page. So, if you buy it, and you agree with me that it's yucky, YOU LOSE!

Elizabeth : Nice product, packaging not recyclable
Love the product! Only complaint is that the packaging is not recyclable. David Rio claims to support endangered, at risk and vulnerable animals however the packaging they use is bad for the environment of the very animals they claim to support. The lid is the only recyclable part.
K. : So Delicious (but quite sugary)
I love to use this in my frother with Oatly Oak Milk Barista Blend! I first tasted this at a cafe and had to buy it because it’s so good! I love it a ton, but one cup is a ton of sugar for me. I stay away from processed stuff, and the ingredients make my tummy feel a little off as a fairly clean eater. However I enjoy drinking it anyway because it’s that tasty! Hope that’s helpful! (Remember all chai tends to me sugary, not just these!)
:P I'm making my way through this (thankfully) smaller container but won't purchase again.
kim : Not Great!
I really wanted to like this, but it wasn’t for me. It definitely has a “fake” sugar after taste. Not good. It does blend really well, but that’s where my positives end. I’d rather make a chia tea bag and add milk. Disappointed!

Flaxman : Sickly sweet and artificial tasting
This is very sweet and there's an artificial taste from the corn syrup solids, milk powder derivative and other industrial ingredients.
If you're someone who likes coffee with flavored syrups this might just be your cup of tea.
If like me, you'd like real chai, look for something else.
nurse_judith : This is a favorite blend of Chai decaffeinated
This is a favorite blend of Chai decaffeinated. I love all the spicy flavors too. This is a nice sized bag with no zip closure so find a container that it fits in and seal it up and it will last along time. I never have a problem not being able to sleep even drinking a nice soothing hot cup in the evening. Use hot water and the powdered mixture dissolves perfectly.
mary kalesse : Delicious!
My husband loves iced chai so I bought him this so he can make his own at home. He loves it! He made himself FOUR iced chai drinks on Christmas. And he has made 1 or 2 each day since then. This will definitely be put on auto delivery because we will be running out often at this rate!

Tisha : Great chai. Tastes good.
Love this chai tea. I first tried it at a local coffee shop many many years ago - before you could find everything on amazon. Recently I remembered the name and pleasantly found this on amazon. Such a great flavor. I’m not a very big fan of super peppery chai. I originally liked the elephant vanilla chai but tried this one and it’s almost the same. And I felt this was a great blend. I love using a milk frother/warmer and either using 2% milk or almond milk.
Mixed really well though I do recommend using a wire whisk to mix it.
This is a pretty small canister though. Says it’ll make about 14 servings. I think I might have to buy a bigger one. It’s so good.
WorldlyPorcini : Okay, better than paying $6 a cup at Teasers
Great for someone who can’t handle spicy chai tea or on the go or don’t know how to brew tea . It’s very mild and not spicy. Having had chai tea for a long time I like mine spicy (spice spicy not pepper spicy). This already has sugar in it but I still add 1 tblsp of sugar when making a 12oz cup. I wouldn’t purchase it again in the future.

P.R. Collins : A terrible approximation of chai
It has a strange sweet flavor I can't identify. This is in addition to a weak black tea flavor with weak chai spice blend flavor. I'm sorry; I wish it was better. Oh well. I'll drink it all eventually. It's not bad enough to throw out.
cnatiell : Good if you like a cup of hot milk.
This product has no chai taste, it just tastes like hot powdered milk, MILK.... I apologize but I’m an avid chai drinker and I was very disappointed when I made a cup of David Rio Chai. I’m not sure how those who did like it say it was good/ great tasting chai in their reviews, I’m baffled. I will not purchase this item again nor recommend it to those that are looking for a good Chai.
Aureous : Not what I wanted, but it'll do in a pinch.
It has a good flavor. Instructions say to add more powder for more chai flavor, but more mix seems to increase the sugar more than the flavor (making it a bit too sweet for my liking). It blends well, that's a plus. Not a lot of "spice" to speak of. I like a chai spice where the heat (pepper/ginger) hits me in the back of my throat. This, has no discernable heat to speak of. It'll work in a pinch but if you're after the SPICE part of chai spice... this might not be the one.
Flaxman : Sickly sweet and artificial tasting

A Long-time Prime Person : Excellent and highly recommended
I have been enjoying David Rio Chai for about 20 years and I feel it is the best available. It could be like the Ford and Chevy thing. I think David Rio offers the best flavors and they all mix easily with hot wate and half & half/or milk, if desired or tolerated. This comes in powder form. It makes a 'chai latte' and is creamy and smooth. The decaf Giraffe (the animal names are who they donate to with sales) is great, too. I prefer to buy it in bulk (this is about 65 cents a cup), I buy 2 at a time, and Amazon offers great prices, especially when shipping with Prime. Many espresso shops and drive-throughs use the 'David Rio' brand (or the Big Train brand, type). This usually comes with a measuring cup; one scoop per cup, more or less to the flavor you prefer, or you can use 3 tablespoons if they forgot a scoop (sometimes, but it is really not needed). Great product and price. I highly recommend this, use it with my Keurig to provide hot water, and I will buy it again. If you like the taste of a chai latte I think you will like this. Elephant is Vanilla flavored. Tiger is a little spicy. Giraffe is Decaf Vanilla Chai; great after 3 pm. Flamingo is sugar and fat-free, I do not like this one. I do not prefer the Tropical Mango (Toucan), too sweet for me. The Tortoise green tea is good, and I do like the Maple Moose. If you don't like the scoop or tablespoon you can pay a little more for premeasured packets. I hope this helps someone.
Amazon Customer : Replaced my morning coffee!
I’m an avid everyday coffee drinker with a love for chai, and this has completely replaced my morning cup (gives me more of a kick, too)! I’ve repurchased 2 more and will probably continue.
I docked a star only because the servings per container are pretty small (I also drink 20oz per day instead of 8oz) so it doesn’t last me very long. Just wish it came in a bigger, more cost effective size!
JJ Swede : Maltodextrin beware!!
Incredibly disappointed. I searched for a chai tea mix that did not contain maltodextrin. According to product photos and information listed, David Rio Tiger Spice Chai Tea mix did NOT contain maltodextrin.
I was so excited when it arrived that I almost didn't double check the ingredient list. Good thing I did!! It lists maltodextrin twice!!!!
I have no idea on the other qualities of this mix. I'll leave it in the break room at work for someone else to enjoy.
M : Flavor
I used this tea religiously a few years back and have always loved the aroma and spicy flavor. It lifted my spirit, soothed my ruffled edges...you get the picture...a love affair! However, this can falls way below my expectations. The flavor is weak, even when using above the suggested amount. I don't think I will get the expected 14 cups .It was extremely good then, hope they didn't cut it to stretch it. Thinking I'll let got of this tea until I find another I can be as passionate about.
Brianna F. : A lot of additives, good flavor though.
This chai has a great taste but there is better chai out there. When I first got into chai this was my favorite, but now I've realized there is a lot of additives and unnecessary ingredients as well. Also, something about this chai literally hypes me up so much that I don't enjoy it. I feel annoyingly wired, and it does it every time I drink it. Will probably stick to my other chai after I finish this canister. Sadly, because I've always loved the flavor.
Rpm : This chai was one of the best my wife and I have for the past 10 ...
This chai was one of the best my wife and I have for the past 10 years. Over this past year they have been changing the recipe around and it is awful. Not sure why they started messing with a great thing... the excuse we received is that they began using "organic" ingredients, but if it drastically changes the flavor like it did, then who cares if it is organic. My wife is still buying it and it seems they are backtracking now to change the recipe to what it was, but honestly it's not even close. I wouldn't recommend it.
