Answer: Yes, Freshpak is the red variety of rooibos. Just fyi, in the Afrikaans language, "rooi" means "red", and "bos" means "bush". You can buy green rooibos as well, which is the exact same plant leaves but is not oxidized.

Answer: I haven't tried Cederberg rooibos, but this Freshpak rooibos is very robust, good color, good flavor, smooth (not bitter) and a very good price.

Answer: I'm sorry I haven't tried both. But I grew up in South Africa and this is the brand we always had and it tastes great. Much better than some other brands I have tried, like Twinings.

Answer: I'm not sure what "premium" tea you are referring to so I can't answer the question. I have tried another brand here, House of Roobois, it's in a yellow and white box. It is delicious. the price is $14.95 for 80 count. I think they are all about the same thing, one not better or worse than another, it's just your preference on taste and how much you are willing to spend.

Answer: Freshpak is my absolute favorite straight rooibos tea (which is difficult to find). It is of extremely high quality so I would just stick with this time and time again.

Answer: We have never tasted "Rooibos Rocks" so cannot compare however Freshpak is the most popular largest selling brand of Rooibos Tea in South African and we therefore only stock this brand

Answer: Impossible to say as I have never had or new that Sainsbury sold Rooibos as a house brand, Freshpak is the most popular brand of Rooibos tea in South African where the product originates from and it is the real thing

Answer: never having tried sainsbury's rooibos, I would say no idea, but the fact that all rooibos on the plant comes from Clan William in RSA I woudl say its probably the same.

Answer: Not like earth or bark, who is out there eating that? Also not like black or green tea because it is not tea. There really is no way to describe an unique taste. I tried it at the home of a South African friend. She puts cream and sugar in it, I like it straight. Very mild berry taste? If a berry were crossed with copper? Slightly related to cinnamon? I don't know. But I like it. Try it at a tea house.

Answer: This tea is totally caffeine free. It does not taste anything like green tea or black tea. You can add sugar and milk to this tea unlike most herbal teas. In south Africa we raise our baby's on this tea. It is almost similar to honeyBush tea in taste.

Answer: No, it's not astringent or acidic like green or black tea. With no sweetening, it's pretty bland. With a bit of honey or sugar, it's mildly fruity like most herbal teas. I think this brand is delicious hot or iced. Great base for a hot toddy, too...

Answer: When you open the box there will be two large sealed packets containing 40 loose tea bags each. However the tea bags are not individually wrapped, so when I am going out and want to carry tea bags in my purse I have to put them in a zip lock bag to keep them fresh and clean. I did decide later to just order the loose rooibos tea and keep some in my tea caddy and the rest in the freezer in a big ziplock bag. It's much cheaper that way, and you don't have to worry if the chemicals in the teabags will create health problems. I have lupus and must consider every chemical that may cause an immune response in my body.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Freshpak Rooibos Tea could be bought in the USA as this is the exact package that I brought back with me when I visited friends in South Africa. I consider it as healthful as green tea. I do wish that it had tags, such as come with the Choice brand of Rooibos tea, but it is a small inconvenience.

I love this tea. Better price than Rooibos Rocks and I find it a little less astringent and very mellow. It is great hot or iced. I prefer to use 2 bags per 12 ounce cup, steep 10-15min or until cool. I love this tea and will definitely reorder. From what the other reviewers say, this is the genuine tea they drink in South Africa, no wonder it's so good, glad Amazon carries it at a great price and with free prime shipping.

My favorite tea EVER!!! This is what Rooibos is supposed to taste like....I just can't deal with all these different versions the stores in the US has to offer. Nope - you have not had proper Rooibos unless you have had Freshpak Rooibos. Coming from a true South African....with some honey, a splash of milk, and cookies to dip in your tea.

Plus! You can use it for a lot of other things as well; add a few tea bags to your bath when you are sunburnt and soak, put cold used bags on your eyes for swelling, facemasks....

This Rooibos tea has a great flavor. I can get 3-5 cups of tea from one teabag depending on the size of the cup/mug. I know that I can drink this tea into the evening and not worry about falling asleep because it has no caffeine. I get 80 bags in this box so that it is quite economical as well. The only negative is that it has no tag and I have to use a spoon to get it out of the glass but this is NOT any big problem.

I have been drinking this tea my entire life but never ordered it on amazon before. It is not fresh. I have to use two tea bags to taste that deep Rooibos flavor. Very disappointed. The plastic around the boxes was compromised so I am sure that doesn’t help with feshness.

This brand is my favorite on line red bush tea. I love it because it takes milk just like English black tea. I drink real black tea all day, but after dinner I use red bush tea because it doesn't have caffeine. I don't care for herbal tea because it is watery. I like the robustness of black tea, and red bush tea is very like that.

Deal Seeker : A great way to try this type of Tea.

There are a lot of claims floating about on how this tea can help you lose weight. Well I cannot say it has that impact but I began adding it to my morning tea in the morning and I have been able to stay active and go for long periods without getting hungry. I also take another herb that is supposed to do the same type of thing and so I cannot say which one has the most impact or any impact at all. I always have been able to skip eating if I was busy and I have been busy so I cannot say that buy this and you will experience magical things happen to you. But this brand costs very little and actually tastes very good. So I think if you are curious about this type of tea for the price it is not a great risk to try it. Plus it does have a pleasant taste so even if it does nothing for you, you get a nice drink. It does not come with a string so you end up fishing it out of your cup which is a minor annoyance but at this price well so be it.

I went into this knowing not what rooibos was; all I wanted was a new tea or infusion or whatever. I brewed it and instantly was intrigued by the smell, sweet and grassy and a little medicinal. I sipped and was ambivalent at first but the strangest thing happened: I began to love this stuff. I was soon making stronger brews and going back to weaker brews. I drank it straight or with milk or with cream and maybe honey or stevia or anything. The constant was always this weird red brew and I am never to be without it. Buy it. You'll acquire the taste, some effort or none!

I have been drinking Rooibos as my "tea" for years, both in Africa and the US. Having tried numerous brands I find the Freshpak brand to be the most consistent in quality and most readily available. For the uninitiated, Rooibos (Afrikaans for Redbush) doesn't contain caffeine and has been proven to contain many ingredients that offer important health benefits.

Talkless : Great for Gout Inflammation!

My husband has gout in his big toe that would get inflamed occasionally to the point of it being painful to walk. His physician wanted to put him on a "prescription for life" for. Instead, I did some research and learned that Rooibos tea is great for inflammatory conditions resulting from gout, arthritis, high uric acid levels, etc. He's been making himself this tea and has a glass or two a day (4 teabags steeped in steaming water until cooled, then re-uses the tea bags twice more for a gallon of tea). Since he started drinking this tea he has had no more gout "flare ups". Since his uric acid levels are very high, which can cause gout flare-ups, his physician has been surprised that the Rooibos tea has kept it under control.

This tea is stale. I buy locally and love it. The local bought brand brews red in color, has a nice flavor and is enjoyable. With this box I ordered another brand. It too brews up red in color and tastes fine. This so called "Freshpak" box brews up brown, tastes is off like if the teas has sat and soured. Be careful with what they ship you as some of it comes to you several years old and almost undrinkable. I should have suspected something with the price being so low.

In the '70s there was an herbal tea that I really loved from South Africa, but then came the boycott of South African goods and I could never again find it. Recently I did some research and found that the tea was once again available (though not by the brand name I knew) by the actual name of the tea "Rooibos".

So I made an order through Amazon... and although the shipping price is a bit high for something so light in weight, I can't complain because the tea is even better than I remember it. For those who aren't familiar with Rooibos Tea, it is very similar to good Black tea in flavor, minus the bitter after taste and minus the caffeine and tannic acid, but with the anti-oxidants and other GOOD stuff. Refreshing and delicious stuff!

As an American who traveled to Cape Town, SA two years ago for business, I picked this tea up for my wife as a 'bit of the flavor' of the country as several of my Cape Town peers suggested it. When I brought it home I was glad that she enjoyed it as much as I had hoped. Well, the fall is here now and we reached for the vacuumed sealed tea box and we where both sorry to see we only had a few bags left. I'm so very happy to find this product here.
