Questions about Brand Bubble Tea
Q:
Do these tapioca pearls contain PCB-like substances that has been linked to cancer?
Answer: FYI. The folks at UC Berkeley took issue with the German study that made those claims. http://www.berkeleywellness.com/healthy-eating/food-safety/article/tapioca-pearl-problems
Answer: I wouldn't be surprised if they did. These pearls have a ton of ingredients that make me wary. I order mine from nuts.com at $4/lb and they have four ingredients, all of which I can pronounce. :)
Answer: Spent lots of time in Germany and the people there are most informed when it comes to natural foods, crops and living. U.S. ought to learn from the Germans. German studies are reliable. People are brilliant and also they ban GMO seeds and GMO crops in Germany. See they think of the long term consequences when a seed is genetically modified so it no longer dies from glyphosate (roundup) spray and instead absorbs the poison residues in the food. Studies have shown glyphosate is a carcinogen (cancer causing substance) and a Neurotoxin.
Answer: Since they are made in china, i honestly wouldnt vouch for them being any kind of safe or healthy. It is possible to home make your own. At any rate, I wouldnt chow them every day.
Answer: Who knows! Does it matter?
Q:
What are the ingredients?
Answer: The ingredients are listed as: Tapioca Starch, Acelytated Starch, Tapioca Specification Starch, Caramel, Water, Sodium Carboxy Methylcellulose (CMC), Dehydroacetic Acid (DHA), Sodium Hydrogen Diacetate (SDA). 110 calories per 1/3 cup, 60 mg of sodium, 27 g of carbohydrate.
Q:
Is it worth it?
Answer: I think it was great, weird to see it wasn’t great for others. Lot of people compare this the the Amazon recommended one but I think this better. You get more with less money. Plus to me they taste the same and I’m a huge boba lover. It wasn’t powder-y as much as the other brand. Just boil it for 5 to 6 minutes like usual and then let it soak in sugar water for 15 minutes and done! And use that syrup in the drink, no additional sugar needed if you do that.
Answer: This was the cheapest brand of tapioca bubbles I could find on the internet, and they worked great for me. The instructions are pretty easy to follow, and they take about 45 minutes to an hour to prepare, but they come out nice and chewy and flavorful. I would have bought more, but an asian market opened near my house that sells them super-cheap. Otherwise I would definitely have continued buying these. :)
Answer: I recomend WuFuYuan - Tapioca Pearl (Black) - Net Wt. 8.8 Oz. sold on Amazon. It's more expensive and comes with less product, but the pearls are more consistent, larger and taste better. These pearls are very powdery until you cook them and seem to get hard in the middle if left too long.
Answer: NO. These fall apart very easily and when you boil them they become a big mass of goo. Go for the WuFuYuan brand or BLACK BUBBLE TEA BOBA TAPIOCA PEARL 2.2LB. They work a lot better. And they are bigger.
Answer: Very deceptive Amazon vendor. They didn't send the EFA brand they advertise, and sent me two bags of a different brand. Look at the photos to see the difference. Also, I find it odd that despite their claim of being "Committed to providing each customer with the highest standard of customer service", my efforts to reach this seller yielded nothing. There is no way of contacting them!
Q:
Are you sending customers the exact same product, the EFA brand, shown in the photo above? or, are you sending a different product?
Answer: I'm not the seller, but when I ordered from them at the beginning of December, they sent me a different brand - Bolle. They might have changed since then, but I believe the picture is the same.
Answer: Order from Power for Apple (Amazon Prime), you will receive exactly the E-Fa brand 5 minutes cook Bobba.
Q:
Does this item Expire?
Answer: I think it will expire in about 6 to 9 months.
Answer: I'd say no. Not if you keep it in a dry airtight container after you open it. I've had another brand of tapioca pearls for years with no change in quality at all.
Q:
Are these made in China?
Answer: The bags lists 'Manufactured for/distributed by Walong Marketing, Inc., California product of China'
Q:
is this FDA approved?
Q:
Added to my cart for $9 but then the price changed to $12.50?

Answer: interesting taste and in Estonia nobody nous about this,
Q:
HOw do you all store them? I have mine in a tupperware then in a ziploc bag, but should i put it in the fridge?
Answer: No! Don't put them in the fridge I keep the uncooked one in a plastic bag and my cooked ones in an airtight Tupperware container on the top of my fridge in a brown sugar and water syrup. If you put them in the fridge they will become super hard!
Answer: Storing them in the ziploc bag and tupperware is sufficient enough, but after cooking them you should try to use most if not all but if there is left over then you should refridgerate the rest for 24hr max then they tend to get too rubbery in consistancy.
Answer: I keep them in a Tupperware. I don't think they need refrigeration.
Answer: Keep then in a dry cool place and an airtight container.
Q:
Is this chewy
Answer: Yes,, they are chewy, that's the fun of them. You can determine how hard or soft by testing while cooking. Be sure to order large Boba drinking Straws! So much fun!
Answer: Yes! I found that soaking them in water for 10-30 minutes and then boiling them until they float made them tea house quality.
Q:
Are these gluten free?
Answer: Where is the gluten source in the ingredients? Is in manufacturing on sharde equipment, hidden in one of the ingredients(which one???) or is it just not labled gluten-free therefore it's assumed to contain gluten? Gluten is found mainly in wheat, barley and rye and foods processed in the same facilities. Containing Gluten is not a defult state of being for foods, unless they contain gluten!
Answer: Yes
Answer: No

Q:
Will these fit through 10mm straws?
Q:
Should i be concerned that theres condensation in my bag of boba i received? I have not opened it.
Answer: Sometimes if the package was exposed to heat during delivery such as it was left in a outdoor mailbox it could do that especially during this time of year. There is nothing wrong with it, and the condensation normally go away. They are precooked and freeze dried. Store them in refrigerator in a ziplock bag once opened.
Answer: I would be concerned because boba should be dry, you re-hydrate it by either soaking it first or just adding to liquids.
Answer: Tawny- these Bob's were the best. Use wiggle room on how soft or chewy you want them. I feel blessed I found them. And if you need Boba straws, I have 300! Of them. I'll send you some if you like. Seriously! Tracy
Answer: I had no condensation in my bag. Neatly vacuumed pack. I only have a little left and had stored them in the fridge. Just today, two days after I took them out of the fridge do I see some condensation. This product was my heaven. Loved every chewy bite!
Q:
Is the bag the bobas are in vacuum sealed?
Answer: Yes, is vacuum sealed. They have to be used soon when you open them though.
Answer: Yes it was. It's large in size and doesn't really keep so you have to make a lot at once. Quality was decent though.
Answer: No. They have an expiration
Answer: Yes, it is.
Answer: Yes
Q:
My bubbles got hard after being stored overnight. They were covered in a simple syrup and put in the fridge. Any insights?
Answer: from my experience the bubbles cannot be stored, as they get hard. They have to be eaten up! I always make enough for one time.
Answer: Yes, it says in the package to use them within 4 hours. Make only the amount needed each time. Keep the package in the fridge (with the boba before use).
Q:

Q:
Do these come dry?
Answer: They are dry, but the texture of tire rubber. They have to be boiled for five minutes to rehydrate them. The package is vacuum sealed, so when you have opened it I suggest freezing or refrigerating them.
Answer: Yes they come dry
Answer: Yes, you just have to cook them. They do come with instructions in English, though. Cooking them is pretty quick and simple.
Answer: Yes they come hard and dry. You need to cook them in water and they'll become soft and chewy.
Answer: Yes! There are instructions on the package about how to prepare then and you can even find other methods online: http://www.eatdrinkonewoman.com/word/2013/09/how-to-cook-boba-perfectly/
Answer: Yes! They're in a vacuum-sealed plastic.
Q:
You drink this cold right?!
Answer: You have to cook this up so the tapioca balls will be served cooked. You can then choose to put it in a cold or hot drink. If the tapioca ball is fridged or served cold, it could harden up. The idea of tapioca ball is to be served right after cooking so it can stay warm and chewy
Answer: Most people make it into a cold drink yes, but I am sure you could do a warm, not hot version. Boba usually holds for about 2 days after made. And uncooked pearls stay a long time in the fridge so make only what you will you use each time.
Answer: Yes, I boil the bubbles and rinse in cold water and add a small amount of honey and toss, then add them to tea or the milk tea mixtures, they are great, but I have only used them in cold drinks or smoothies.
Answer: Boba Pearls are added to a cold of hot beverage. Thank you
Answer: Yes, you make your tea, boil the tapioca Pearl's, cool them and put them in your tea. It is a cool tea drink.
Answer: You can, but you still have to cook it first. Then add to your hot/ cold drinks. It doesn't refrigerate well once cooked. Should only cook what you're going to use. Delicious though. I stored open container in fridge.
Answer: Yes, I do after I cool them down after boiling them.
Q:
Why was I charged $6 more when I ordered???
Q:
Is there a trick to cooking and saving them? or do you have to use the ones you cook asap?
Answer: It's best to use the ones you cook ASAP. There isn't really a good method to preserve them longer than a day or two other than cooking them for a bit longer. Do a quick search online to see the cooking times and how long they will last.
Answer: I cook just enough to use at the time. As they set , they seem to get slimy and dry in the middle. But these are the best tasting. I just put a handful into a smallpan, just enough water to cover them and ad 2 tablespoons of honey, boil for 5 min. and they are perfect.
Answer: Not really. Gotta use them within 24 hours. You can put them in a Tupperware containers or bowl with cling wrap and stick them in the fridge. But it'll only work for a day, and they may grow hard and stick together. Adding water in to the bowl would keep them from hardening, but make them kinda fuse together. This brand will survive longer in water/container than instant boba, but not by much.
Answer: Not that I know of I have tried but it doesn't work sorry
Q:
Are these gluten free?
Answer: Where is the gluten source in the ingredients? Is in manufacturing on sharde equipment, hidden in one of the ingredients(which one???) or is it just not labled gluten-free therefore it's assumed to contain gluten? Answer: Yes
Answer: No
Answer: no
Q:
What are these used for? If for added flavor, what flavor are they? Also, will these work for iced coffee?
Answer: These are tapioca balls, usually used in bubble tea (cold tea with these at the bottom) and you use a wide straw to suck them up. They really have no flavor, they are gelatinous in texture and chewy. You can cook them and toss them in honey or sugar. Many recipes are available online. I do not know about ice coffee. But these were not flavorful and in my opinion gross. Also one of my bags arrived ripped opened and there is no return/refund option. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Answer: Boba tea. They are made from cassia flour. Tapioca pudding is made from it also. They are the bubbles, or little balls that take on the flavor of the wonderful tea, they were made for. I’ve never used them in coffee. I wouldn’t think they would be as good. If you follow the instructions they cook up in sugar water in 5 minutes. You should try the tea.
Answer: They are to add substance and texture to a drink. They become chewy when boiled. They do not have much of a flavor and must be coated in honey or a sugar cane syrup for taste. They are amazing in most drinks, traditionally tea, but should work just fine in coffee.
Answer: They have no flavor, they absorb the flavor of the drink you put them in. They are great in iced for iced coffee or milk based teas (chai or matcha) it's like a chewy snack in a drink. No substantial source of nutrients, kind of a way to curb the appetite
Answer: I use them for iced coffee! I boil them until they float and then strain and put into a bowl with some brown sugar! Super yummy in iced coffee!
Answer: These are little balls that you can find in smoothie drinks, Korean drinks, called Bobba. You put it on the bottom of your drink and with a large straw they sock in with drink to your mouth))
Q:
Are the ingredients NON-GMO (genetically modified organisms)? Trying to stay away from GMO containing traces of glyphosate in ingredients.
Answer: These are the list of ingredients on the package: Tapioca Starch, Water, Starch Acetate, Hydroxypropyl Distarch Phosphate, Caramel, Guar Gum, Sodium Diacetate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Artificial Flavor. Thanks
Q:
What’s the process to cook them?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I put them in boiling water for 8 minutes, turn the pan off and set for 8 minutes and rinse in a strainer, then put them in a bowl with a little bit of honey, stir them and mix my drinks and put them in, they do not keep for me so I only cook what I want each time.
Answer: Very easy. Measure appropriate amounts of pearl and water (stated on the package) bring pearls and water to a boil. Boil for 5-7 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water. Place in bowl with syrup of choice.
Q:
I have cooked ones in sugar water in the fridge. Questions - do I need to reheat before using them? anyone microwave them to reheat?
Answer: I don't reheat. I also don't cook it in sugar water. However, you can store it in sugar water.
Answer: Hi,
Answer: Once it was cooked 5 min, then you can drink it as hot or cold as you wish, thank you.
Q:
What flavor is it ?
Answer: They don't have a flavor, you have to sweeten them with a syrup for flavor so you can make them any flavor you want. If you try one plain it tastes like cardboard
Answer: It is not flavored. It tastes like plain boba.
Answer: Unflavored, just plain tapioca and real good.
Q:
What is the shelf life before cooked?
Answer: I cut the top carefully and then fold over and wrap tight in a zip lock bag making sure to purge all the air out and they have lasted over a month and more as long as they are dry and like I said air tight they are great.
Q:
How many servings does this bag have?
Answer: A lot!! 15-18 depends on how much you make. I'll get about 6 batches out of a bag but I cook more than a serving each time.
Answer: This bag is or can be considered commercial size and can therefore make a lot of tapioca. At the bubble tea stores, they seem to use a half cup to 2/3 cups of tapioca per 20 oz serving. However, if you are an addict like me, you could go through the whole bag in a week!
Answer: 20 servings per bag.
Answer: I don't know specifically, but this is a pretty big bag. I have made about ten servings so far, and the bag is over half full still.
Q:
Does it pop?
Answer: No, they are chewy. If you want popping boba you need to search for Popping Boba Pearls. We carry them.
Answer: They tea doesn't pop. You need to get Boba Pearls to ad to Tea. They soak up the teas flavors and are a fun experience while drinking Thai Tea
Answer: No pop
Answer: when you cook them according to the directions they don't pop or break appart.
Answer: No, they're regular boba
Answer: Not like popcorn. It's like round balls of jello. They expand a little when you cook them, but nothing dramatic.
Answer: No. They are chewy just like at the store if you prepare them correctly.
Q:
Is this product kosher?
Answer: Hi,
Answer: Well this is a starch extracted from cassava root....
Answer: i don't think so.
Q:
can i put this in thai iced tea?
Answer: Yes you can , it is perfect for Thai ice tea and any other smoothie
Answer: It's great with Thai Iced tea or Thai Iced coffee.
Answer: Yes but you need to steep the bubble tea first. For iced tea I suggest steeping in lemon juice or Limoncello Liqueur. You only need enough to cover the bubbles and steep on medium! I steep mine in
Answer: Once it is cooked you can put it in dang near anything. I put it in my kids koolaid while my husband and I enjoy it in strong milk tea.
Answer: Sure you can, cool drink will be better. I sometime put it in soy milk, it is also nice.
Answer: you sure can!
Q:
Does the bag need to be refrigerated after opening?
Answer: The directions on the bag do say to refrigerate it after opening.
Answer: I didn't refrigerate and my boba pearls are fine. I have had them for a couple if weeks now.
Answer: No - I just use a clip and put the package in a gallon ziploc to preserve freshness.
Answer: No, but it should be kept sealed.
Q:
How do they cook?
Answer: What?? They cook very well in boiling water! Boil water, add bobas, stir until the bobas float up to the surface, then decrease heat to medium, cover and cook for 5 to 6 minutes. Take a taste test of some bobas for softness to your liking, and rinse with cold water to cool it down. Drain and mix in honey or brown sugar to keep the bobas from clumping and you're done! Add to your favorite drink and enjoy :) !
Answer: You boil them. The package has directions. Total prep time is about 30 minutes. I think they come out the same as the quick cook 3-5 minute kind.
Answer: You boil water, put them in and stir. After a couple of minutes they start rising to the top. Cook them for at least 5 minutes, then drain them and rinse in cold water. They should be squishy. Try one to see. :3
Answer: Hello, you boil these in water for 5 minutes. Thank you
Answer: You gotta boil them in water. There are instructions on the bag that you can read
Q:
What are the instructions for cooking these? Thank you!
Answer: very easy. boil in the hot water for 5 mins. they will be nice and soft/chewy. Cool them in the strainer and transfer them to a glass.
Q:
Do these contain cyanide??
Q:
Is it in a resealable packet or do you have to use all at once?
Answer: It's not resealable but I close it as best as I can and wrap with a rubber band and it seems to stay pretty well in the fridge like that
Answer: Its not a resealable bag. Use a zip lock bag if you don't want to use it all.
Answer: It’s not in a resealable packet, but you can use binder clips to keep them fresh.
Answer: Mine did not come in a resealable bag, so I just transferred the unused portion to a ziploc bag.
Answer: Not resealable.
Q:
What are the listed ingredients?
Q:
Do these have to be cooked before using them in drinks?
Answer: yes...They are short cooking so about 5-10 minutes. regular Boba, 25 minutes. I was not impressed with these. I regular cooking time boba
Answer: Yes, you have to boil them for about five minutes first, and then soak them in sugar water for a few more minutes and then you can use them in drinks.
Answer: Yes. It's very easy though - just add them to boiling water and cook 5 minutes.
Answer: Yes. I recommend cooking them and following the optional part of the directions that have them covered for a period of time. Also, after cooking store in sugar water or honey water.
Answer: Yes. It takes about 5-10 mins.
Answer: Yes, it doesn't take long.
Q:
Can you cook this in the instant pot?
Answer: I don't have an instant pot so I couldn't give you a definitive answer, but I think you can cook anything in an instant pot. The way you cook the tapioca pearls is being the water to a boil, put the tapioca in the boiling water and watch till the pearls are floating, then book for 15 minutes, then turn it off, cover, and let them steep for 15 minutes. If you can do that in an instant pot, then go for it. Maybe Google and see if it tells you. Good luck! We love making our own Bubba Tea!
Answer: They may fall apart. I wouldn’t.
Q:
Can I boil the whole thing at once and then store it or do I have to boil in portions every time I want to make a drink?
Answer: I have read that it doesn't store well for more than a day. I make a days worth at a time and pour some "simple syrup" (sugar water) over it. You can make a lot of this syrup ahead of time. IMO, you can even make the tea ahead of time.
Answer: You unfortunately have to boil in serving size portions. Once you boil them, they start to harden...at least this has been my experience with them. You can persevere them a bit if you store them in an airtight container with sugar water/simple syrup to help them from drying out, in the refrigerator. I hope this helps! Other than that, these are so delicious!
Answer: It's better to cook only the portion you need. Store it to be used next day would become hard, texture won't be the same. Therefore, don't cook everything at once unless you will use that much.
Answer: Just serve yourself whatever you're going to use. Once you store what you didn't use you have about 2-3 days before they harden. So use them by portions, it'll last longer but it's worth it.
Answer: You have to cook as you need it. Store dried tapioca in a tupperware dish in a dry cool area. Storing this way it can last up to 6+months
Answer: No more than a couple of days worth. Make a "simple syrup" of water and sugar top store it in.
Answer: You need to only cook what you need for 2-4 days at the most. You can store them only for a short while in the syrup then they harden.
Answer: It will only last a week once boiled. Short refeigerated shelf life once cooked.
Q:
Are you shipping to Colombia?

Product reviews of Brand Bubble Tea
Michelle P. : Eeeehhh.
My expectations were too high for this product considering it has good reviews but for me the boba itself is not soft enough after the recommended cook time on the packaging. (I recommended cooking it for a few minutes longer) Also, I’m not sure if it’s only for me, but the boba has a metallic taste to it. I’ve tried other instant boba brands and this is the only one that I got the metallic taste from. Personally, I would not buy again.
barbara a. : Just like what you get out at restaurants.
I didn't sort out the magic to get them soft, soft all the way through, but hey. If you're going to have them for a while, store them in the fridge or freezer, these went bad after a few months. Soooo many balls. I bought three bags of powder and this was plenty of boba for all of them.
Firelight : strange looking pearls
These bobba pearls are odd. Here is why. The bag comes airtight, making the product look small. Once opened the air returns and the product returns to a normal size. The pearls are soft and powdery when uncooked, unlike other pearls I have ordered. Uncooked these pearls will even dissolve in your mouth. At first I thought I had wasted my money but after I boiled the pearls they became a normal color and consistency; though they are smaller than others I have ordered. I won't be ordering from this brand again, but it's not a bad buy for the money. Also the cooking instructions were a bit complicated; I bypassed the instructions, boiled the pearls for about 8 minutes and let them sit in the hot water for about 15 minutes more and they were ready.
Pros:
A good amount of product for the money
Taste good after being cooked
Cons:
Uncooked pearls powdery
Pearls smaller than others I've ordered
Amazongirl : Product advertised is NOT what they shipped. These suck!
Update: 9/3/13: Cooked these Bolle brand pearls up today, and WOW- what a nightmare. These pearls are a powdery, crumbly mess right out of the bag, which translates to many broken pieces floating around the pot as the pearls cook.
During cooking, a thick layer of slime gurgled up, coating the pot and creating a layer of slime on the pearls. Despite regular stirring, thick gelatin-like floaters swam around the pot later resulting in a sticky mess that stuck to the pan and the spoon. In the drink, the cooked pearls clung to themselves. These pearls did not grow much in size during cooking.
I make a lot of boba tea, but these pearls were the worst. I threw both bags away and bought real EFA bobas from a different seller who represented their item correctly.
Original review:
You might want to note that returns are NOT granted with this seller. With that said, I didn't get what I ordered. This wasn't my first order with this seller. They merely swapped brands without saying anything. The difference in product is huge.
Days ago, I received two bags of black tapioca pearls with the understanding it was to be the EFA brand stated and shown in the item description.
EFA pearls are the best I've used in bubble tea drinks for a few reasons 1. The pearls are large and same quality you get in bubble tea shops. 2. They cook up very quickly...5-10 minutes.
What I actually received from this seller, was a brand called Bolle. No comparison! Different packaging and very small tapioca pearls that according to the label require 20 minutes to cook. Due to the seller's store policy, you cannot return items. If this happens to you, contact Amazon as they are good about resolving issues involving product misrepresentation.
I am uploading a few photos of the "switcheroo" product I received- Bolle brand pearls with a green label. Look at the difference in pearl size compared to the EFA brand.
Seller, you need to represent your items accurately. You lost a customer.
Amanda Jordan : Great quality
The only thing I would change is make it a resealable bag. I don't use it all in one go an being able to close it back up would be fantastic. Other than that flavor is great, quality is great.
Corinne : delicious and easy to make!
Super easy to make, just boil for thirty minutes and then simmer for another thirty, don't even need to stir them just make sure you use plenty of water and cover them while boiling. Drain, rinse, and then let soak in something sweet. I use equal parts water and brown sugar; microwave until the sugar dissolves. I like to put them in my homemade frappes; I recommend the big train brand. The only downside to these pearls is the packaging. As long as the bag is still vacuum sealed they ship just fine but I've gotten a bag that air had gotten in and there was condensation in the bag. A lot of the pearls were smashed but amazon issued a quick refund so no harm no foul.
Amanda Richards : Crazy easy to make
Honestly super easy to make and tastes just like the boba from the shop. Maybe the best quarantine purchase I've made for my mental health lol!

Amazon Customer : 100% what I wanted
* Expiration date? It was good for another year so it was NOT expired. 10/10 quality check.
* Vacuumed Sealed? Yes it was. That is until you open it, duh. 10/10 packaging.
* Taste? Just like it came from the shop itself. Can't tell the difference. 10/10 flavor.
* Easy to use? Instructions on the bag and literally took 5 minutes. 10/10 preparation.
overall 10/10 will buy again.
C Dean : Great Efa brand pearls for pearl teas
I love these! I recommend boiling them for longer than 5minutes though. I boil mine for about 20 minutes and then pour out the water and pour sugar over the top of the pearls until they cool and I'm ready to use them. When boiled for 5 minutes they don't seem to stay soft for very long in my drinks. I stored my unused pearls in the fridge in a big ziplock and they've stayed fresh for months. Don't store your cooked pearls in the fridge though because they get hard in the center, just cook enough for the day and store them with sugar in a container with a lid. These go really well with the Qbubble powders like Thai tea, honeydew, jasmine, and milk tea (I've tried these flavors and can vouch that they're good).
KonaGal : When I saw the powder instead of pearls I was horrified
I read the reviews here from other customers, concerning this black bubble tapioca pearls and I learned some people got packages of firm pearls and some customers got old crumbled pearls that are mostly dusty stuff.... my package was mostly dust but i dropped it all into a large pot that had a rolling boil of water and cooked for 25 minutes, then turned off heat , put lid on pot, let sit and cool down for half hour. I strained the goop off the pearls, then added pearls into condensed milk/extra strong brewed coffee and gave gentle stir....served the drink cold in little glasses with wide mouth straw and our office staff was thrilled with the results.
fuzzywoolabear : Buyer beware:, Arrived with condensation IN the bag.
I've bought this once before and it was good tasting boba. I was hoping to just re-seal the excess boba in a ziploc so I could have boba tea weekly, without the hefty markup.
Condensation got in the ziploc bag and ruined the Boba (I live in a humid area).
I reordered and my game plan was to use my vacuum sealer to make smaller boba bags to use at my discretion. It arrived with condensation IN THE SEALED BAG. I hadn't even opened it AND this product is not available for returns. Stay away.
AlexRen3 : These are great
I bought these to make bubble milk tea drinks with and they taste great. The directions are easy to follow and they turn out perfect every time.
Shaina b. : Oh. My. God. BOBA!
Oh my god. BOBA! I got this after binge drinking boba tea at my local "tea house". These are sooo good.
You get a abundant amount of boba for a steal. I looked up different ways/recipes to cook up this stuff up...the whole package is not in English, so you will want to look up preparations and such.
Other than that, GET YO SELF SOME BOBA!!
My favorite way to cook it so far is as followed:
-Bring a small pot of water to a boil.
-While waiting to boil add a few spoonfuls of sugar and a few spoonfuls of honey.
-Once it boils drop desired amount of Boba into boiling water.
-Let simmer/boil (it will 'boil' over like spaghetti, KEEP an eye on it) for 5 mintues.
-YOU MUST KEEP THE LID ON as much as possible. It can boil over like I said.
-After 5 minutes they will seem noticeably swollen and gooey.
-Scoop them out and place them in a small Tupperware with sugar water covering them.
-Either let them cool in the fridge or serve them in a hot tea right away.
-Later enjoy the decadence in some green tea!
I know these directions are lengthy I apologize for that, but these are so worth it. I hope this review and small synopsis helps!
lauren shoot : Great Stuff
Easy to make, really delicious and as good as the boba place in town.
Toni Brier : Easy to make!
I love E-FA tapioca pearls they are ready in 5 minutes. They are sweet and chewy.
Victoria L. : Yummy Boba!!
These boba are yummy, I love making them with iced coffee, dalgona coffee, or bubble tea drinks.
The flavor is fine just by itself so I don't soak them into sugar.
Real chewy, the packaging is easy for opening and closing, and storing. Also, it keeps freshness for up to 2-3 months. I don't know if it lasts longer since I've finished them within that time period!
Debra : Works Great for me
This is the 1st type of Boba product I bought. It seems fine, though I have nothing to compare it to. The packaging is different than thatthe photo (product packaging changes over time), but the product was what I order. I was worried cause there were reviews saying the product came crushed, the boba became one mass while boiling, or it just dissolved into nothing. I did not experience any of this. My boba arrived in perfect condition. I have used it about 3 times now. Haven't had any issue with boiling them either.
I think the only complaint I would have is the package says ready in 5 min. Not really. At least for me takes about 8-10 min to get the consistence to be right. If taken out at 5 min then core would be a little dry still. This is not a big deal for me. 3-5 extra min is nothing.
BCVM : First experience making boba at home
Second update 3/23/2013. Everyone seemed to like these in our house... I have ordered them 3 times and they were a big hit at our Chinese New Year party. So I placed my fourth order... And got a DIFFERENT PRODUCT! Not just a different brand, a different product! We had received the same brand boba the first three orders and now I received an instant pearl. A few reasons why this annoys me.... First, you find a product you like you want to keep ordering THAT product. Second the instant pearls are damp (precooked?) and therefore most of the 2.2lbs you are receiving is water. The previous boba I received were dry and had 30-40 servings in a package, this order has far less servings. And what do you do with the unused portion? There are no directions regarding what to do with unused product and it doesn't seem like they will keep for long in their wet state.
I am most annoyed about the bait and switch. Three orders of standard 40 minute cook time boba, on the fourth order you send me some instant junk!!!! I have gone from loyal customer to, I will NEVER order again!
Update: I just placed my 3rd order for these. They have come quickly and week packaged each time. My friends and family all love them!
I received these pearls very quickly, just a few days, shipping from one coast to the other. They were seriously vacuumed sealed in thick plastic bag, the package was rock hard it was so snugly vacuum sealed. When I cut he bag the pearls puffed up about 50%. Then the package was wrapped in bubble wrap, put in a small box, then in a cardboard shipping envelope. Needless to say, they were very well packaged! There was some loss from crumbled pearls, but under 5% loss.
The cooking instructions were simple and clear. I have read the other reviews and thought the 'maple syrup' comments were a little picky and strange and I didn't understand because maple syrup smells good.. Right?! Well, they have a weird maple syrup smell when you cook them... And it isn't good. In fact it made me a little sick to my stomach. After cooking them I tried one and they still had the maple syrup smell/taste to the point were I didn't want to eat them. So I put them in simple syrup and set them aside. About an hour later my husband wanted to try a bubble tea because he had never had one and I rave about them all the time. I mixed one up for him (not telling him about the smell or taste) and he LOVED it. I then tried it too, the simple syrup had left the pearls tasting just like they do in my favorite bubble tea cafe! There was the smallest hint of the maple syrup flavor but only because I was looking for it. If I hadn't cooked them ( and smelled them) I would have never known and never noticed it.
The pearls after being cooked were a large pea size. Too large to fit through a normal sized straw, but not as large as I would have liked. I would not describe them as small marble size, they are smaller than that.
I am going to try another brand or two like Possmei, the brand my local cafe uses. These were satisfactory, my husband loved them and I would buy them again, but not so great that I will stop looking for a better boba!
Amy E. Hammond : Great boba
My daughter and I were missing our boba tea treat from our local shop because of the stay at home orders, so I found these boba and we're making our own. These boba are really good. They are chewy and satisfying. Definitely recommend - and you get so many!
lifegetsbetter : Just like in the Boba Shops!
Here's the reason why some people who reviewed said that it didn't taste as good as the boba shops (or that they tasted just okay): In most boba shops, after they boil the boba, they soak the beads in brown sugar, sugar, or honey. This is what gives them that sweet taste. As for me, I boil them, strain out the water and then add a Tablespoon or more of honey to sweeten them up.
These beads boil up just like pasta in that it doesn't matter how much water you put in the pot. They swell up a bit in the 7 or so minutes after you throw them into boiling water and simmer them. Then, you pour off the excess water and you're done unless you want to add a sweetner which you would do at that time. I did read online about a doctor saying that boba balls from other countries may have traces of bad things in them so don't over consume them. The doctor suggested that we make our own. As for me, I'll stay with this product and just not eat them everyday.
laurie : Good boba-good vAlue
I've now purchased three brands of Boba, and find that they are all relatively the same. This one packEd the most punch for my buck. I boil the water, boil the Boba for two minutes, turn the heat off for two minutes and let them sit, and then submerge them in cold water for a minute. They come out perfect every time. Got my 10 year old son bubble tea stuff to make it home for Christmas, and it has been by far our favorite gift. It's so easy to make, and we've gotten several different flavors of tea. We probably drink more bubble tea than most normal people, but it has really become our favorite treat.

SavageInk Studios : Chewy and delicious
Chewy and delicious! My only complaint is that once you open the package and try to pour them out, they bounce around like a bunch of wild little pinballs. There isnt a way to reseal it and it opens down, no across so transfer isnt easy
Jgale : As good as I hoped
Came packaged well and taste great! I use it to make bubble tea at home. Cooks very quickly and follow the instructions to make sure they stay soft and chewy! I sprinkle some brown sugar on mine then drop them in the tea! Could probably get more for a better price at a local oriental store but 1/4 cup is good for one drink so this will last me a long time.
Andy Cooke : Boba Tea
These are great. Nice texture and takes about 20 mins to make if you follow the directions on the package. They keep for about a day before they start to get too chewy for me. Been making Boba Tea every night since I received these. Add a little brown sugar.
Amazon Customer : 100% what I wanted
* Expiration date? It was good for another year so it was NOT expired. 10/10 quality check.
* Vacuumed Sealed? Yes it was. That is until you open it, duh. 10/10 packaging.
* Taste? Just like it came from the shop itself. Can't tell the difference. 10/10 flavor.
* Easy to use? Instructions on the bag and literally took 5 minutes. 10/10 preparation.
overall 10/10 will buy again.
Dave : Bobalicious! Quick and tasty
I've ordered this product from this company several times now, and i'm always pleased by quality/price.
The good:
1. The instructions on how to prepare are simple to follow, and result in perfect pearls every time.
2. The taste I adjust according to my mood (a little or a lot of sugar.)
3. The texture is always consistent.
The bad:
1. I eat them all quickly.

Abby W : Could be better
Best if cooked with brown sugar or honey to add flavor. However I followed many different recipes for these however they still came out rubbery and chewy. Overall not the worst but still not the best

Liaj : Good flavor and quality!
Good tasting boba! Tastes good plain but adding in some sugar makes it taste even more like comercial boba places.
It cooks super fast- usually it takes 5 mins boiling (I make maybe 1/4-1/2 cup at a time).
Great deal! No more Uber Eats-ing $6 bubble tea that turns into $17 bubble tea with all the fees!
Mogadishu 207 : Tasty, but a bit hard
My daughters love Boba. Due to Covid 19 and confinement (and safety), I did not want my daughters to go to stores and purchased these bubble tea. The flavor is good, but the pearls are a bit hard. The recipes in the packaging are fun to use.
My daughters are happy and I recommend it.
Michelle P.

Q.K. : Awesome boba, exactly what I wanted!
Ever since I tried some bubble tea in a local sushi restaurant, I've been dying to make it myself. These are super easy to cook, even for someone who doesn't have a lot of cooking experience and taste just like the ones used in the restaurant! The instructions on the package are written in English as well. Chai tea is my favorite, but to keep the milky sweetness of milk tea, I put sweetened condensed milk into my tea as well as over the cooked boba, then added regular milk to my chai. Came out awesome! Very happy with this purchase.
JG : Straight out the bubble tea shop
Let me tell you these came out PERFECT. Brilliant glossy black in color; soft to the core. 8 minutes of boiling and it turned out exactly like what you'd get from a bubble tea shop.
Bought it worrying over the negative reviews about it being bad and hard in the center even after 20 minutes of boiling. Based off my experience, all these people must've just had bad luck with their bag.
brandon : Perfect!
Very easy to make! Boiled water in a pot, added 1 cup of boba, let boil for 8 minutes. Removed from heat, drained and placed in ice water for a few min. Then they were ready to put in my drink! Froze the remainder for easy storage. I put uncooked boba in the refrigerator to keep fresh.
Elena : Loved it! So freaking delish!
Like a few other sellers, what I received wasn't what is pictured. For that, I left a negative review on the seller's page.
However, that's fine with me because the tapioca was absolutely delicious anyway! I received a brand of pearls called "Boelle". At first, I was all bummed out because I received the wrong product, but after cooking it up, no regrets! If any of you received this instead of what is pictured, know that they're VERY FRAGILE! These aren't the 5-10 minute pearls that were made for impatient people. Instead, these look more like the ones I see in bubble tea shops. And since they enlarge significantly after cooking unlike the 5-10 minute brands, you get more bang for your buck. One large spoonful of "Boelle" is equal to about three to four spoonfuls of the E-FA ones.
Here's how to prepare them if you received the "Boelle" brand:
1. Bring water to a boil. If it's not boiling, the pearls may become a gooey mess.
2. If you can, pour the tapioca straight from the bag instead of using a spoon to scoop them out. No matter how gentle I tried to be, if I used a spoon to scoop any out, a few would break apart.
* Remember these puff up considerably before dumping in a bunch.
3. Let simmer on low to medium heat for 20-30 minutes.
4. Turn off heat and let sit for another 20-30 minutes.
5. Rinse the tapioca pearls under cold water, preferably filtered water.
6. Mix in sugar, honey, or whatever sweetener you want with the tapioca.
*** I let it sit in the sugary goodness for a few hours before I serve mine.

VLa FonKalloo : Amazing tapioca pearls!
Very simple to make, perfect chewy texture, great with any bubble tea and additions you can think of! I got it right the first try. Will definitely repurchase but I'm sure this pack will last a very long time. You'll have to store the pearls in a ziplock bag or an airtight container though. Unfortunately the bag it comes in is vacuum sealed (which is great) but not resealable. To prepare:
- bring water to a rolling boil
- add 1/2 cup tapioca pearls (enough for 2 maybe 3 drinks honestly)
- stir for a few seconds then cover the pot with a lid
- immediately bring heat to medium
- let cook for 8 minutes
- drain and rinse pearls in cold water
Optional:
- add pearls to a mixture of sugar and water (enough to cover pearls)
- let sit for maybe half hour before adding pearls to your tea
Katelyn12686 : fast and easy to prepare
great value at $10 for 2lb of boba bubble pearls (at the time i purchased it)! they came vaccumed sealed and as pictured. i prepared them by pressure cooking them for 2 minutes, then putting them in a brown sugar simple syrup (1 cup water & 1/2 cup brown sugar boiled together). then i scooped a couple tablespoons of them on my tea drink with the syrup. so delicious both my kids (5&7) asked for their own! they love boba pearls too :)
Kate : Very quick to make and tastes great!
I read some of the reviews that said it took them 30 mins to cook. It only took me 4-5 mins to cook these for me. Once the water boils, toss in your boba. When they start circling in the boiling water, cover and leave on high heat for 4-5 mins. They come out perfect every time. I let mine sit in cold water for a little bit before putting it in my Taro milk teas. I put some honey at the bottom of my cup, toss in my boba, and pour the milk tea on top. AND BOOM! Delicious bubble tea at home!
Gen Apple : Not quite the right texture
Perhaps it's the cooking method listed on the package, but these didn't turn out like any boba we've had before.
Definitely only make enough for what you are using that day, the 2nd day they had completely changed texture - firmer and chewier than the day before.
Toni Brier : Easy to make!
I love E-FA tapioca pearls they are ready in 5 minutes. They are sweet and chewy.

Jen : Exactly like the boba at tea shops!
I'm so happy about these tapioca boba pearls!!! HIGHLY recommend them if you're tired of spending $$ on a single drink and have about 20 min. of time.
Super easy prep - just boil water, drain after, and add a little sweetness. The boba will float to the surface when they're "done" cooking, but you can adjust time if you like them squishier. I usually drain them once they're floating, and transfer to a small bowl with a little sugar water mix and let them sit until I've finished blending my smoothies.
FOR TWO DRINKS I used a little more than 1/4 cup of boba pearls, but this can be adjusted by preference.
To me, they're a slam dunk! The flavor and texture are IDENTICAL to what you get in shops. My fiance was less impressed and said "there's just something about getting it in stores that makes it better" (He prefers extra squishy and I like them firm, so that could be why, and maybe not having to clean up after ourselves xD).
I paired these pearls with 3-in-1 mixes from QBubble on Amazon in Honeydew and Coconut Flavors, ice, and Almondmilk.
Give them a try!
