Questions about Maeda-En - Shiki Matcha (green tea powder) 1.0 Oz.
Q:
Where is this tea grown? Where is it processed? From which country (countries) please!? :-)
Answer: From Japan..info is on www.maeda-en.com
Answer: Japan but it was distributed out of California
Q:
Is this Maeda-en's Universal Quality? It doesn't say so on the item pictured.
Answer: Yes it has the Universal Quality TradeMark.
Q:
What is universal quality? Is it better than culinary grade?
Answer: hi, on the Maeda-en website it says the Culinary matcha is a lighter green in color, and that the culinary matcha "if eaten" or I assume used just for tea will probably taste somewhat bitter, as it is made specifically to be combined into food recipes,ie ice cream, muffins, etc. The website has some great recipes. I personally would only buy the culinary if you plan to cook with it. I hope this helps. amy
Answer: Universal quality is less bitter and is better for drinking alone. I prefer to use this kind when making lattes as well.
Q:
Is maeda-en matcha green tea booster + yuzu made with sugar from the fruit because i am staying awy from sugar unles it is nautral from fruit
Answer: This tea is actually 100% tea leaves, ground into a fine powder. There is no sugar or fruit included :)
Answer: No sugar it's all natural.
Q:
I just ordered some and the expiration date is Janurary 2019. Does this expire quickly or did I get a very old batch?
Answer: I doubt very much you will find the product unusable. It is factory sealed and it is a very fine powder. I have tried many match products and I personally find this one to be The Best in quality and taste. It must me mixed well. I use a bamboo whisk. Awesome strong flavor with a very small amount.
Q:
Do you have decaf Matcha tea
Q:
If I order this now, what is the expiry date? Can this be used for baking as well?
Q:
I am drinking this for health purposes and not flavor. Is "Universal quality" good enough or should I get "Ceremonial"?
Answer: I drink it for health reasons as well. Ceremonial is much higher quality and better flavor; however I believe universal quality still has the same health benefits.
Answer: I use for the same and I tend to bounce between the 3: universal, culinary, and ceremonial. I think ceremonial is the least bitter but im guessing all 3 are just fine for health. and when looking into green tea originally I was worried about radiation from fukishima so I stayed away from a lot of other brands. but who really knows tbh. We have a large Asian community nearby cause I live near a SUNY college and I noticed it last time I was in the Asian grocery store. I didn't really see any others so im fairly confident with the quality....still not completely convinced about the radiation thing though.
Q:
Do you have coa (certificate of analysis) for the product? is your product contain lead?
Answer: Why would you think a green tea product would contain Lead?I purchase this brand regularly and it is the Best Tasting I have ever tried .
Q:
Does amazon carryr sen-cha Green tea bags, with Maeda-en label, large bag for $10.00?
Q:
What is this container made of? Can it be recycled into metals?
Answer: It's made of aluminum and can be recycled into metals.
Answer: It's been a while since I purchased this item, but if I remember correctly, it can be recycled. The container is not all metal.
Q:
How much should I use in 16 oz water bottle of cold water ?
Q:
Does this work well for cold matcha? If so, do you use the same proportions (2 g to 50 mL water)?
Q:
Do you have a coa (certificate of analysis) for the product? does your product contain lead?
Q:
What city in Japan is it made in?
Q:
What is the difference between universal quality and ceremonial quality? I hear of ceremonial and culinary, but not sure what is universal.
Q:
What’s a good sweetener to add to this? I like green tea, but this is too intense as is...
Answer: Hi, I personally don't mind drinking it in water with just a little green tea. But you can actually add it to a smoothie you know with Organic almond milk, Organic berries some spinach and honey it is really healthy and yummy. If that not for you, you can make it as hot tea-water with a little green tea and add honey. You can allso drink it cold-mix water with green tea and add honey. Either way, it'll give you lots of energy....
Answer: I use stevia powder to sweeten mine. It tastes delicious!
Q:
What are the specific health benefits of this product
Q:
How long does the powder last, in the sense, What is the expiry period of the powder
Q:
is it radiation and pesticide free
Q:
How do you use this powder
Answer: Matcha is pulverized green-tea-leaf powder. It's for flavor enhancement, and makes the tea stronger. You just add a tiny amount to your cup of green tea made with a bag. By "tiny amount," I mean <1/8 teaspoon--that would be a lot, actually. My wife only takes a couple of sprinkles fallen off the end of a knife blade; I use a little more. You'll have to try it out to see how much you prefer. It is very good!
Answer: Hi this powder is great I used it in my bottle of water, all I put is the little spoonful into the water and I feel energetic after drinking!!! I also put it in my smoothies or in yogurt! Hope this helps..thanks.
Answer: You put it in a drinking bowl, add a little hot water and whisk it till it foams up. Then you can add more water to your taste. Be aware that it doesn't dissolve if you don't whisk it. It becomes a personal 'tea ceremony' of sorts. I love it.
Answer: I use it to make green tea latte. Really good!
Answer: I add it to my smoothies
Answer: I just add to water a drink
Q:
what is expiration date please (bottom of can)? thanks
Answer: March 24 2014 expired within a month of buying so i would not order again.
Answer: Best by 13SEPT14
Product reviews of Maeda-En - Shiki Matcha (green tea powder) 1.0 Oz.
Amazon Customer : Better than store bought
This matcha has excellent flavor and consistency. It also blends smoothly compared to other matcha powders I have tried. I'd suggest buying it on here as it comes fresher than what you'll get in store (for whatever reason). Hope this helps!
Amazon Customer : Not the best
1 oz.
Karina Locker : I love this Matcha Powder!
It smells good. It tastes wonderful.
It is not bitter which I like
Carronya Pate : Three Stars
Not bad at all
Elizabeth Thompson : Five Stars
Great quality. I put mine in my morning smoothie!
DojoDiva : Purchased for Ice Cream; Drinking the Rest
I purchased this very expensive tea powder at the local Asian supermarket for an ice cream recipe. It didn't add much flavor to the ice cream, but did add a beautiful green color. After seeing matcha highly recommended by Dr. Oz, I'm drinking it for the health benefits. I'm a big tea drinker and I have to say this is not very flavorful. I'm looking forward to trying some of the more highly rated brands.
K : no good -- Not even suitable for culinary : <span data-hook="review-body" class="a-size-base review-text review-text-content"> <span> For the price, this matcha is disappointing. There is a strong plastic/metal taste, both in the mouth and lingering aftertaste. I find it unpalatable in tea, and not
Kalani : Nice, but chunky
I purchased this matcha from Maeda-en at a local health food store and compared it with the Zen Spirit brand that I purchased off Amazon. Both colors were vibrant and both smelled great. The differences are that the Zen Spirit brand blends up quickly with my little hand mixer and has a nice smooth, non-bitter taste. The Maeda-en brand had fluffy chunks and did not blend up easily. Some chunks still floated to the top after I chased them around. At the end of the mug, they did break down, but left a paste at the bottom. I also felt the Maeda-en matcha was a bit bitter compared to the Zen Spirit matcha.
Cass! : It's ok.
This is a good blend for the price. It is not top of the line and a little pricey, but I enjoy it. It is not bitter, as many matcha options are on amazon. I have bought this particular brand a few times, and will probably go back to it, as long as they stop raising the price.
L. Smith : good flavor but pricey
tried a ton of brands this was good but not enough product for the price
Elizabeth Thompson : Five Stars
Great quality. I put mine in my morning smoothie!
Mike : Five Stars
I love matcha tea and this I one of the quality I love!
Theresa : Perfect and Cheap!
Love this product for the price. i’ve been making iced matcha lattes with macadamia milk and it’s SO GOOD! <3 will def buy again
Laurie : I love matcha, and this one is good considering it's ...
I love matcha, and this one is good considering it's a universal grade. It's definitely better than culinary grade and worth paying a little extra for it. I use it to make matcha lattes and they taste great!
Sonam : Not the best for this price range of Matcha
Doesn't dissolve well, very chunky. You can get better quality for $10-$12 price range. Definitely not comparable to some finer quality out there.
Amazon Customer : Getting healthy
Great product.
Limee49 : Different but instructions on how to actually make tea? ...
Different but instructions on how to actually make tea ? Have Japanese neighbor she’s teaching me to use a wooden whisk, and not so strong tea
Mesa boy : Good product
Didn't use it. Gave it as a gift
Kate : This Matcha was alright but I have had better. For the price it should taste better
This Matcha was alright but I have had better. For the price it should taste better. Not all Matcha's are equal but it also depends on your own personal taste. Matcha itself is very good for the body.
BrooklynBerean : Love it
Great flavor
Geraldina Santos : I definitely recommend this matcha powder, great for making ice lattes
The flavor of this matcha powder is super good and it’s worth a good price, I would definitely buy it again. (:
binks : A soothing wake-me-up most every morning.
I have a matcha chai almost every morning. Very good with hot water and some full fat coconut milk added.
Amazon Customer : Buyer beware
When I found out how close the Maeda-En farms were to Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, I contacted Maeda-En customer support (USA) and requested a COA (Certificate of Analysis) for radiation and heavy metals testing on matcha. This request was made on 5/16/16. After many emails and phone calls, on 7/13/16 Maeden-En told me they could not provide the COA and could not prove that the matcha is tested. Very disappointing info., we truly enjoyed this green tea, and now we have to find safer product.
ZARA : Five Stars
Everything great! Tea is of high quality.
Sonam : Not the best for this price range of Matcha
Doesn't dissolve well, very chunky. You can get better quality for $10-$12 price range. Definitely not comparable to some finer quality out there.
Kate : This Matcha was alright but I have had better. For the price it should taste better
This Matcha was alright but I have had better. For the price it should taste better. Not all Matcha's are equal but it also depends on your own personal taste. Matcha itself is very good for the body.
nguyen phan thao chi : Strong matcha flavor and nice green color
I love this matcha powder. It tastes really strong which is my preference. I love to make it into a matcha drink with a cheese foam. The only down side is that it's pretty expensive. I was able to make about 8-10 glass of match drink with this powder
Cass! : It's ok.
This is a good blend for the price. It is not top of the line and a little pricey, but I enjoy it. It is not bitter, as many matcha options are on amazon. I have bought this particular brand a few times, and will probably go back to it, as long as they stop raising the price.
Vitamin M : Great Matcha!
I love this Matcha! For the money this is the best one I’ve tried! Very little bitterness and the flavor is good!
Iris : Not true
This is not truth.
N. Sanchez : Many good reasons to buy this tea
This is one tea that is worth buying.
There is one good reason why you should get this tea. Its good. And its drinkable. That is a characteristic of a good matcha green tea.
This green tea is savory and the price is great.
Many of the "fake" companies state that they are organic, that they are better quality, have fancy advertising and logos, many random 5 star reviews. The thing is that the tea does not taste good they taste like grass.
Sakura : Don't buy from this seller if you don't want soon to be expired matcha.
It's great quality. The flavour and taste is nice.
My only regret is that the expiry date is so close when I brought it. I wish I was told that it was gonna expire so soon otherwise I would have never brought so many.
I purchased in mid June and its gonna expire on September 1st 2021.????.
So I have 2 months to use up all the matcha from this seller before it goes bad. Highly disappointed.
I Brought the same item from a different seller and their expiry date was up to Jan 2022.
Rachel S. Miller : Great matcha!
excellent tea!
Jesse Zayas : Five Stars
I love the way this tastes.
J. : Great in smoothies:)
I love to put green tea in my smoothie important factor in my diet, give you a nice boost of energy:)
Wovelin Fool : My first order of matcha
I've always liked green tea, and after reading about its healthy benefits, I was turned onto matcha. Not knowing much about it, I decided to purchase what I thought was matcha, but it was actually a combination of matcha and loose leaf green tea, which I also enjoyed.
But, ready to take the full matcha plunge, I decided to purchase this product, and experience entirely powdered green tea. I just had my first cup, prepared with that bamboo whisk and spoon combination that is shown to be purchased together, and I have to say it is very tasty! So glad I bought this.
I gave it 4 stars since this is my first powdered green tea brand, and I hope that there may be a brand that tastes just as good, but a bit cheaper.
nycgirl : Staple Japanese brand, grade is "drinking quality," IN BETWEEN "Ceremonial" and "Culinary" grades
There are 3 "grades" of this brand's Matcha:
- Ceremonial grade (highest and most expensive, reserved for special tea ceremonies) - black can
- "Shiki" (universally good quality drinking matcha) - gold can
- Culinary grade (lower grade, great for baking, cooking) - silver can
This "Shiki" grade is priced in between the Ceremonial and Culinary grades. I've been buying this brand of matcha for years from the Japanese markets, before the matcha "Trend" exploded.
Open the jar and snip open the silver packet containing the matcha. Then dump the matcha into the jar and toss the packet.
Authentic, tasty, and full of polyphenols and antioxidants. There really is no need to buy the ceremonial grade which is overly pricey.
Pinyo P : Good value matcha
Very good quality for the price. It is as advertised. Better than culinary grade and not quite ceremonial at less than half the price.
Bright green, sweet aroma and taste. Can drink it traditionally or use in any style... Universal. ;)
Comparable to domatcha 2nd harvest.
Caliaha : Not my favorite. Read my review for other great brands...
I compared 4 different brands of matcha green teas. Here's how they rate:
#1 DO 2nd Harvest, excellent flavor, texture, and color, expensive, organic
#2 Serendipi, great flavor, best price for the quality, organic
#3 The Tao of Tea, local Portland Oregon company, fair flavor, price slightly lower than DO, organic
#4 Maeda-en, available at Uwajimaya. Difficult to dissolve. Less favorable flavor and not organic
Uwajimaya has best selection of Matcha teas with several others I have not tried yet. Whole Foods carries both DO and Tao of Tea. New Seasons currently does not carry Matcha. Serendipi is available on Amazon for $17/4 oz. box, best tea for your money!
alejandro ortega : Great for matcha enthusiasts
I love this brand of matcha it's good to have in the evening the only thing I don't like is the unnecessary extra packaging inside the can
May : Best matcha for matcha milk shake
I read other reviews before I purchased it. It has beautiful color, good flavor and the price is good. I mainly make matcha milk shake and cakes. I think it’s the best. I don’t need to buy these expensive ceremony level matcha.
Kate : This Matcha was alright but I have had better. For the price it should taste better
This Matcha was alright but I have had better. For the price it should taste better. Not all Matcha's are equal but it also depends on your own personal taste. Matcha itself is very good for the body.
Sheldon : So worth it
My second economical go to for matcha
Mesa boy : Good product
Didn't use it. Gave it as a gift
Megan : Good matcha
Exactly what I hoped for
Christa : good matcha for lattes
I drink a lot of matcha, mostly from specialized tea sellers, but I noticed that this was recommended by a food blogger I follow so I decided to try it for a reasonable price. Overall, I think it is good quality. It's not as bright green or earthy as a prime quality ceremonial matcha, but it does have a strong flavor and comes through nicely in a latte.
MrsC2 : taste great
This is my first time purchasing Matcha tea but did reasearch and read many reviews. This tea has a wonderful taste and great health benefits from what I have read. I will continue to purchase this tea
