why have grocery stores stopped carrying this product?

Answer: The grocery stores only carry a select few of the celestial teas. I leave on a Texas beach and the only ones sold here are the Fruit Tea Sampler and the Sleepytime Tea. Try going to the Celestial teas website. I order by the box. You’ll be surprised how many they actually have that are not sold in stores.

Answer: I'm not sure but I wish they did, so I just buy tick-tock brand vanilla rooibos instead, or get vanilla rooibos from a local store that sells it in bulk.

Is this tea unfermented, semi-fermented, or fermented?

I don't like the honey vanilla sleepy time, does this have the heavy "natural" (aka fake) vanilla flavor of that tea, or is it more genuine?

Answer: I don't care for the honey vanilla Sleepytime either. I prefer the regular Sleepytime. However, I really like the Madagascar Vanilla Rooibos. It has natural vanilla flavor and vanilla bean in its list of ingredients. I like it better than plain rooibos myself. I have a cup every night. Give it a try!

Answer: The packaging says they are natural fiber tea bags. You can call them at 800-351-8175 if you'd like more information.

Why do the tea servings come in pairs? They aren't individually meshed. Are they designed to brew 2 at a time? Or maybe mine didn't get stamped out?

Answer: Between the 2 sides you should be able to tear them apart along a lightly serrated edge. As you say perhaps the machine designated to do this didn't do its job. You do require only one side for a "normal" size cup of tea.

Answer: I don't know why they do come in pairs, but they are individually meshed and you can tear them apart yourself. They are kind of perforated. I only use one tea bag and I make a 20 oz. cup and sometimes even use it twice (I don't need very strong tea).

Answer: African Red Tea (Rooibos) is grown in Africa from a bush. It is blended, and processed in The US, at Celestial Seasonings in Boulder, Colorado. U.S.A.

How does this compare to Tazo Vanilla Rooibos tea?

Answer: I like the flavor of the Celestial tea better than that of the Tazo tea for this rooibos. It just tastes better.

Answer: I think it is better. But I am not a taste tester and I like tea. All kinds. Have tried Tazo. Was OK.

Answer: I believe so because my last purchase from last month is listed as Madagascar Red even though I got the newer box. It's really good tea.

Answer: I've not had the Highlands Honey tea, but can tell you that this tea has a light and very pleasant flavor of vanilla. If you like vanilla I'd recommend getting one box of this tea to try; my guests who've tried it all enjoyed it very much.

Are the tea bags indiviually wrapped inside the box?

Answer: No. There are 10 double bags in a single waxed paper wrapper. I take them all out, split the 10 doubles into 20 singles, and store them in a jar. Great tea.

I used to love this tea. It was great both hot and cold, but the flavor has changed and it tastes almost disgusting to me. I am sad this has happened but what can you do? I will not buy this anymore and I gave what I had left to people in the office my bf works at.

I have read that Roibos/African tea is high in antioxidants, good for you and naturally caffeine free. I prefer the Roibos Chai Tea but I bought this one to try as well. My daughter loves it and drinks it every day. It has a smooth vanilla flavor to it, but I prefer a little bit of a kick. My daughter also loves coffee, but she drinks this much more quickly and asks for it just about every day since I bought it. The case is the way to go with any of these teas.

This is such a delightful tea. It smells incredible, with a warm, earthy vanilla flavor. It's completely inoffensive and un-opinionated, as there's almost never a time when I wouldn't want a cup of this or wouldn't be in the mood. It's impossible to over steep, and can even be steeped a second time to decent effect.

For anyone who hasn't tried this tea, you really need to because it's just not like anything that's out there. If you want a taste you won't get tired of, can have at night (it's a tea leaf which is naturally without caffeine) this one is for you. Because the vanilla is a natural vanilla & vanilla bean it doesn't taste artificial. Also, it goes great alone or with just about anything because it's not going to knock your socks off like Lemon Zinger, peppermint or any of the herbal teas. The taste doesn't interfere with what you're eating. Why it's so hard to find in local stores, I have no idea but so far, everyone that has come to my home and tasted it is hooked for life.....even their husbands. I would advise you to really let it steep as it is not a very strong tea. I like it with a LITTLE milk & sugar but alone is great also because it's not bitter. Especially if you don't care for herbal teas, this is the one for you.

I first tried this tea as a free trial packet in a box of chamomile. (The Madagascar Red box never quite attracted me in the grocery store, as I assumed the red box meant it had a spicy or tart taste). This tea has a rich warm vanilla flavor, and it is not acidic (great alternative to black teas for those with sensitive stomachs - like me).

2 months ago I started making entire pots of the tea, and our kids (ages 6 and 9) were immediately attracted to the scent. They asked for cups, and have since become regular tea drinkers - specifically for this tea.

Of course, just as our family fell in love with the tea, our local grocery store stopped carrying it. So glad to see it on Amazon - and at a better price than the grocery store charged.

This is a naturally sweet tea with 50 times the antioxidants of black or green teas. I love all Rooibos Teas that I have ever tried. This particular red tea is rather expensive, so you might want to try a less expensive variety of Rooibos Tea first.

I am a tea lover, and have found rooibos, with the bonus of vanilla flavouring, to be a pleasing alternative to other decaffeinated products. Normally, unless one loves weak herb teas, decaffeinated tea has barely any flavour. The richness of rooibos is enjoyable, and the vanilla essence is a lovely combination.

I would caution those who, like myself, prefer strong teas that rooibos is of very light strength. I found I needed to use two sachets per cup, and steep them for ten minutes, for the blend to be satisfying.

I drink a lot of green tea, but I also like red tea for its earthy flavor and because it doesn't have any caffeine.

The directions for this tea recommend steeping for 4-6 minutes. I usually brew it for 6 minutes or just leave the tea bag in the whole time. I don't feel that letting the tea sit longer makes the tea take on any bad qualities, as it doesn't get bitter or unpleasant in taste. This is not one of those teas that you have to worry about it becoming acidic or overpowering. I don't think you can over-brew this tea, and if anything, the taste gets a little bit richer as time goes on.

This tea brews a deep reddish-orange color, and has a light aroma. You can smell both the red tea and the vanilla.

The taste matches the aroma pretty well, although I think you can smell more vanilla than you can taste. If you haven't had red tea, it is very smooth, sweet, and earthy, but more of a fresh woody taste. I really like this red tea, and the touch of vanilla is wonderful. It is a great pairing, and the vanilla manages to make this red tea even smoother than it normally is.

The vanilla doesn't have a fake taste, and it's not too strong so as to drown out the rooibos. The rooibos itself isn't the best quality but the vanilla makes up for it. Very nice hot or lukewarm, but not so great cold or as sweet tea. A great alternative to purely rooibos though.

As someone with acid reflux (LPR) and who can't take caffeine, I was SO happy to find this tea at a Christmas Tree Shops locally last year. (Rooibos is one of the few safe drinks for those with reflux.) I don't care for most herbal teas and didn't have much hope for this one, but it tastes like a real tea with a nice vanilla flavor. Problem was, once I fell in love with it, I couldn't find it anymore. I have checked store after store and was about to write to Celestial Seasonings--afraid they had discontinued it--but imagine my surprise and joy to find it on Amazon. Bought my box of 6 boxes and hope I'll still be able to continue doing so.

BTW, it makes a great iced tea. What we've got right now in the fridge is a combination of Celestial Seasonings Peach tea and this Vanilla Rooibos (maybe 4 bags of each--steep in COLD water and you won't get cloudiness or other ickiness which happens with hot water). Even my husband who is pretty much stuck on Arnold Palmer tea, likes it.

WHOA! First, this tea tastes GREAT w/o the need for added sweeteners! While I originally bought this tea to help maintain (and loose some) weight, there is a fantastic side effect... After the very first cup, I felt more relaxed than I have in years! And, with my job as a Driving Instructor, taking care of my 80 y.o. Mother and 98 y.o. Aunt, saying this is no exaggeration. While I have yet to get my BP measure (past 10 years, varied between Pre-Hypertension and Stage I Hypertension), it has got to be lower (will report back on BP and weight status when I get it checked next week).

EDIT, 31 OCT: I have been drinking this tea nearly every evening for the past 3 months. I am more relaxed and my BP has improved. About a 15 point drop on average. So, now I vary between normal and Pre-Hypertension.

However, the new package = new formula. When I reordered this, I noticed the change in the packaging. And, it was enough to make me wonder if it was the same tea. While it still has relaxing properties, the vanilla taste is much less pronounced than it used to be (hence, the drop to 4 Stars), even after steeping for the full 6 minutes.

Edit 16 MAY 2016: Well, it happened again. Orders 1 - 4 and 6 were the original packaged tea (showing a Lion sitting at a table sipping tea; 5 Stars). While orders 5 - 8 have been the new blend (3 Stars).

HOWEVER, I have found a way to make this tea taste very much like the original tea! :)

I bought a bottle of Madagascar Vanilla Beans (2 in a bottle @ $9.98 at Walmart; don't let the price scare you at this point). Then, using between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 C of hot water, I add 1 tea bag and a snip of vanilla bean (seeds and pod) about the width of the blade of the scissors and steep for the full 6 minutes. So, I would give this mixture 5 stars.

The bean can be removed, or if you forget or can't see it to take it out, swallowed without a problem.

The good news is that I have already gone through 1 box (20 bags) of tea and I still have 1 whole bean + 2/3's of the other bean. So, in the long run, I believe it's a good deal to get the taste that I want.

Now, while I have yet to try it, I believe that using some Vanilla Extract (just a few drops) MAY provide similar results. I will be trying this at a later date.

I received the shipment and read the ingredients only to discover the amount of 'Natural Vanilla Flavor' in this tea exceeded the amount of Vanilla Bean used in its making I was put off. What is 'Natural Vanilla Flavor' in this day and age? Should have researched more carefully before purchasing 6 boxes :(

The tea flavor used to be sold in all of our local stores but I guess it wasn't particularly popular and they stopped selling. Couldn't find it anywhere so I checked if Celestial was still making this flavor and that's when I came across the listing here. I am by no means a tea fan, I much prefer coffee and I usually don't enjoy anything claiming to be 'vanilla' anything. However, this tea is so smooth and natually sweet. Its a must have during winter as a quick but not too filling warm up (no disrespect to hot cocoa) or when anyone at home is sick because its caffeine free so we can slip right back into bed to rest up. This came in a shoebox sized package with the Celestial logo and inside was 6 individally wrapped boxes (20 teabags each). We're so happy to have a stockpile of this stuff!

This stuff is delicious and knocks me out to sleep. Not everyone responds this way but if I drink this with melatonin and magnesium I am gone for 9 hours. It is A LOT of tea though, esp just for 1 person.

Very flavorful. Wish the packages were sealed separately instead of in twos. I don’t recommend drinking more than 3 cups if at work. I got extremely sleepy.

I've been buying this tea for years in the stores. Then I saw the subscription price on Amazon was much more reasonable so I switched to buying it online.

I've tried other brands of Rooibos tea but have found the Celestial Seasonings to have the most robust flavor. My husband and I have made a nightly ritual of having a cup every evening as it is flavorful, soothing And non-caffeinated. A most relaxing tea, it is!
