The Golden Rules of Tea Making: 1. Always use good quality tea. 2. Use freshly drawn water everytime you brew. Water that has already boiled has lost oxygen and will give a flat, lifeless tasting cup of tea. 3. Warm the pot. 4. Add one teaspoon of tea per person and one for the pot. 5. Pour on the water just on the boil. 6. Allow to brew for at least four minutes and not more than six minutes. Stir, pour and serve. Add the milk first or last as you prefer. Some teas and tisanes need a shorter or longer brewing time so you may have to experiment to get the taste just right for you. Tisanes are not usually served will milk. The Storage of Tea: Our teas are packed into airtight foil bags, both to protect the tea from contamination and staling and to keep it dry. We recommend that, once opened, the contents are stored in an airtight container, preferably away from bright lights. To ensure that you are selling or serving tea at its best, try to rotate your stock carefully, using up one bag completely before opening a new one. To avoid tainting keep strongly scented teas separate from the more delicate ones.

is this "full" leaf or is it mainly cut/broken pieces?
Answer: Tea that is packaged in sachets is broken. Some brands are broken more finely than others until the cheapest teas have the dusty residuals in their bags. Full leaf is limited to loose teas. They need to unfurl in the cup as they infuse in the water, and they cannot do that entrapped in a sachet. These are proper sized pieces for a quality tea. Small enough to infuse well, but certainly large enough to be retained in the sachet, leaving a tea of brilliant clarity.
Answer: It is standard loose-leaf tea, which sometimes gets quite broken during any compamy's processing procedures. This ToH Assam is less broken than many others I've tried. I've been drinking it for years.

Answer: It's the flower of the camomile plant that should be in the packets. That's what is collected from the plant not their leaves. The flowers separate when they dry, some dissolve to dust but it doesn't matter as long as the medical properties of the flower are in the packets.

Answer: The description says, "Our Tippy Assam is grown in the Brahmaptura valley, in north east India. It has been picked during the second flush from July to September and the high proportion of golden tips in the leaf is an indication of its exceptional quality. When brewed it reveals all the classic Assam character, a strong, malty full-bodies flavour, dark red liquor and wonderful aroma." That's all I can tell you about the leaves used.

Answer: I bought the Taylors' imperial gunpowder tea just over a month ago and the expiration date is about a year from my purchase date.

Answer: It's a black tea grown in the Assam region of India. It has a strong malty taste. I take a little sugar with mine. The wife likes cream and sugar in hers. If you like full flavors you might try some. For a lighter tea Earl Gray fills the bill quite well.

Answer: It is a giant loose leaf bag. You will have to open the full bag at one time. Not individual at all. I keep it stored in the bag and only pour a little at a time into my tea storage tin. The tea stays fresher that way.
Answer: You must open trhe whole kilo. This is very high quality tea and can be tranferred from the bag to an air-tight canister. It will last 9-12 months.

Answer: This is tough. I use a tea ball, and believe I have somewhere around 1.5-2 tsp tea in it, brew for about 4 minutes, and it makes about 4 cups--as in teacups. Since I am switching back and forth between Taylor's English Breakfast and Assam, I think I may make at least one pot of Assam a day and would say it lasts 40 days. So can't really estimate how many servings. To me, a serving is 3-4 teacups!

I really do like Taylors of Harrogate tea. And the China Rose Petal has a nice aroma and taste. I even subscribe to get the tea on monthly basis. But the last two deliveries were a bit disappointing in that I got tea that had a “best before date” that was either very close to my delivery or already passed before it was even delivered. I ran out the previous month earlier than usual and ordered an extra one that was delivered on July 15. That box had a best before date of July 31. I thought that was terrible to get old tea. Normally you get 3-6 months. But I didn’t do anything about it. Then I get my usual monthly subscribe order and it got delivered yesterday, Aug 4th, and the same best before date on this new one is also July 31 2020. While tea is still drinkable I should not get expired tea. Unless the vendor does something about this, I am canceling my subscription order because they might send another one next month with the same date. So disappointed that I need to find another tea or I may have to drive a half hour to a British store that sells this brand. At least I can see the date before buying.
Quality Rules : Best Assam Tea
This is the most flavorful Assam I have found. I've been buying this loose leaf pure Assam for years by Taylors of Harrogate. I buy the one in the box as it's the same as the one in the tin. The tin is lovely, but recently I bought a couple of of small air tight canisters for the tea, coffee & cardamon. I highly recommend this Assam.

During a visit to Morocco I became accustomed to the daily sweet tea that was a sign of hospitality everywhere. Their tea combines mint and green tea leaves, just like this one. I decided to see if this product came close in flavor. And I'm happy to report it tastes JUST like I remember. Now I just need to figure out how much sugar to add to each cup. (Some people did drink their tea without sugar, but I'll never be one of them.)

I love this Earl Grey tea. This is my second purchase and I like it way more than Twinnings tea. This one has more flavor; the Bergamont aroma and the taste of the tea is incredible. Assam can sometimes have a slightly bitter aftertaste and I have tried Assam teas from tea houses and other manufacturers but only this one has amazed me. Before, I was lukewarm on Assam but this particular brand is fantastic, it is smooth and the flavour is just lovely. I highly recommend trying it with milk.

I agree with the other reviewers of this tea blend when they say that once opened there is a strong orange scent that is overpowering. Once brewed I found that the orange is blended nicely with the black teas used, it took me a couple of trys to get the right brewing tecnique down (I'm new to tea in general) but once I did it is great. It is a strong tea, I find it a lot stronger than coffee.
I use a Breville tea maker filling filtered water at max (four or five cups not sure exactually) I use four tea spoons of this tea brewed at 205 degrees for four and a half minutes.

The tea is remarkable and delicious. Amazon ships in bags now, everything is damaged or broken open upon arrival. The tins were crushed and damaged.

I received the tea via local express checkout(I had run out of tea and where I live there are no stores that carry loose leaf assam tea). I usually order , but they didn't have it for same day delivery so I bought this, without checking the quantity. The price was the same as Davidson's, so I assumed it was the same quantity. It was a rushed order to be honest, I had done no research. However, when I received it in the evening I was pleasantly surprised by the premium packaging. It was then that I realized that the quantity was really small. However, the flavor more than made up for it.
This tea is very strong, and has a rich flavor. It is never overwhelmed when I add milk. In addition, the tea is smooth and has no hint of bitterness that you find in some cheaper brands of tea. Lastly, I've noticed that the tea leaves themselves appear to be of higher quality; they have a nice aroma to them, they are not as dry looking as some other brands.
To conclude, I think this tea is excellent. I'm going to go so far as to say that this is the best Assam tea on Amazon(I've tried most of the other loose leaf Assam teas on the site).
It is expensive, and I most likely won't make this my everyday tea(I finished the pack in under 10 days). However I will always have a cup of this terrific tea at least once a week. It is expensive, but then again, you get what you pay for.

This tea was a complete letdown (other than the nice tin it comes in). Firstly it isn’t a full leaf tea (Stated as leaf on the tin)...the way the tea looks resembles coffee grounds. Terribly strong yet bland taste that could be achieved from grocery store Lipton tea bags (not even their premium stuff). Certainly wouldn’t buy again...

I drink a lot of tea.
Original review: I'd been buying Twinings loose Jasmine tea, then tried this. This has the blossoms throughout and smells wonderful as you open the container, as you brew it, and as you drink your tea. The flowers are pretty as well after the steeping. I'm not an expert, but I love this tea and the price is great. I've found that for the best flavor, limit the steeping time. It will get harsher if it stands. Also, 1 kilo is a lot of tea. 2.2 lbs a lot. Once I opened the bag, I placed the tea into empty tea tins (nine 4 oz ones I think) that I already had, then I store them in my refrigerator until ready to use. This has let me keep tea fresh for over a year. I like the other two flavors that I've tried from Taylors of Harrogate as well, the black current and the peach. They make great ice tea for the summer.
Update 10/5/2017 I bought this after it became available again. I probably won't drink more than the first batch I brewed. I prefer loose leaf tea, but have some Jasmine in sachets (Harney and Sons Dragon Pearl Jasmine tea sachets). The Harney and Sons smells and tastes like jasmine should. I may have gotten a bad batch of the Taylors of Harrogate, but this bag has a slight chemical smell to it which persisted after brewing. I know jasmine blossoms are often reused to scent additional tea, was that done poorly here? The scent is so important to taste. This did not pass muster. I drink lots of tea, over 2 quarts per day and heat the water to just below boiling. I wish I could continue to recommend it. It was a lovely tea.

Original review: I'd been buying Twinings loose Jasmine tea, then tried this. This has the blossoms throughout and smells wonderful as you open the container, as you brew it, and as you drink your tea. The flowers are pretty as well after the steeping. I'm not an expert, but I love this tea and the price is great. I've found that for the best flavor, limit the steeping time. It will get harsher if it stands. Also, 1 kilo is a lot of tea. 2.2 lbs a lot. Once I opened the bag, I placed the tea into empty tea tins (nine 4 oz ones I think) that I already had, then I store them in my refrigerator until ready to use. This has let me keep tea fresh for over a year. I like the other two flavors that I've tried from Taylors of Harrogate as well, the black current and the peach. They make great ice tea for the summer.
Update 10/5/2017 I bought this after it became available again. I probably won't drink more than the first batch I brewed. I prefer loose leaf tea, but have some Jasmine in sachets (Harney and Sons Dragon Pearl Jasmine tea sachets). The Harney and Sons smells and tastes like jasmine should. I may have gotten a bad batch of the Taylors of Harrogate, but this bag has a slight chemical smell to it which persisted after brewing. I know jasmine blossoms are often reused to scent additional tea, was that done poorly here? The scent is so important to taste. This did not pass muster. I drink lots of tea, over 2 quarts per day and heat the water to just below boiling. I wish I could continue to recommend it. It was a lovely tea.

I have traveled the world of earl grey tea varieties and there are many good ones (and even more bad). However, I have never had a tea that registered near perfection like this one. I have been sipping this tea for nearly a decade and it is absolutely outstanding (and had fantastic experiences ordering it through Amazon). I highly recommend it. I do always warn folks to avoid tea bag teas in general since they are mostly created using the lowest quality tea leaves ("tea dust"), so invest in a tea stick (Google it) and enjoy loose leaf varieties so you can have a cup of tea at it's highest quality. For what it is worth, never allow the tea leaves to sit in your hot water for more than three minutes (less than half that time for a cup rather than a tea pot full). Enjoy!

Expected a good quality tea for such a price but got same thing like Lipton tea bags only without the tea bags. Tea powder instead of leaves, weird taste and muddy water

I’ve now tried twice to get a kilo bag of English Breakfast tea. The first time I got China Rose Petal (see pic)... but it had a separate bar code/sticker labeled English Breakfast. Opened it up - definitely China Rose Petal. Reported it and they immediately shipped a replacement (next day, nicely done). This time it was Taylor’s Tea Room Blend... again with a separate bar code/label indicating English Breakfast. Opened this one - definitely NOT English Breakfast.

Taylor’s Tea Room Blend has been among my favorites for several years. It is incredibly smooth.
Unfortunately the metal box was dented when it arrived; the cause was obvious—it should have been packed in a box, but in fact was shipped in an envelope. Note that the soft sided box of a different tea was also dented. I found it necessary to replace the metal box with one of my own.

I visited the Lover's Leap Estate in Sri Lanka and really enjoyed the light citrus's notes of the Estate's teas. The Taylor's of Harrogate has picked some of the Estate's finest and it can be enjoyed for a reasonable price in a great tin. I can usually get two infusions depending on the amount of leaves in the pot. If you enjoy a lighter black tea, this is a great choice!

I confess ... I'm not a tea connoisseur; but I do enjoy iced tea and the occasional cup of hot tea. I've had a couple of orders of this Taylors of Harrogate Earl Gray tea and I really LOVE the additional zing it adds to my iced tea blend (3 family sized bags decaf tea, 4 regular bags green tea, and a generous helping of earl gray in those bags you can get from Amazon for tea and fill with whatever you like. I think I have it on auto-ship. I live in Florida, so we have iced tea year round. Lovely fragrance and taste! It comes in a foiled (is that a word?) plastic bag in a tin. I keep it in the original bag, folded over and sealed with a clamp, in the tin and have not noticed any loss in fragrance or flavor. The tin is very nice and, of course, re-usable.

I have recently become interested in brewing my own Masala Chai, experimenting with combinations of different spices. This was the first loose tea I bought based on several google searches which stated that teas from the Assam region are the best for Chai tea.
The flavor of this tea brewed with the spices and milk is, in my opinion, extremely pleasant with a beautiful caramel color.
I intend to go on experimenting with other brands but I definitively recommend this one.

Derek : Too much dust, more astringent than Ceylon should be
Disappointed by the leaf size. I had previously enjoyed the Taylors of Harrogate Lovers Leap Ceylon for its low astringency and citrusy flavor. What I didn’t expect with this one was just how much of it is dust and fannings. The Lovers Leap was mostly large pieces, but this is like what you get inside teabags. When I put it in the mesh tea strainer, a large amount of leaves fell through.

Good smooth, malty flavor. Nice subtle sweetness. I usually get 4-6 flushes our of each spoonful. First flush (and sometimes second) is a little sharp, but that's to be expected. 3 & 4 are the sweet spot (pun intended). Great price for a solid tea.

I'm not a tea snob, but I drink a lot of tea--this six pack lasts me about six months, and I get through a pound of English Breakfast each month--and I like a decent quality. Mostly, I don't like "flavoured" teas (can't handle Earl Grey), but this tea has a delicious smokey flavour that I really enjoy. Sometimes I cut it with 50% English Breakfast. Of course Taylor's is a respected upper mid range brand (not quite "boutique" but I wouldn't be willing to spend that much money on a tea for everyday drinking), so it shouldn't be any surprise that this one is good too.

I love a good assam tea and thought I'd try Harrogates in the carton rather than the expensive tin. Big mistake. I opened the foil bag and brewed myself a up of tea. I was very disappointed. The tea had no 'tea' taste - just kind of a dried weedy taste. I had made it the way I usually make tea- preheated pot, boiling water, steeped. So I tried again with the same results. I can't tell about the freshness, but there was no 'tea' scent when I opened the package. Maybe I just got a bad batch (the box was crushed when I got it (bad packing of my S&S items by Amazon) but the foil bag appeared intact. I won't be buying this tea again.

I really do like Taylors of Harrogate tea. And the China Rose Petal has a nice aroma and taste. I even subscribe to get the tea on monthly basis. But the last two deliveries were a bit disappointing in that I got tea that had a “best before date” that was either very close to my delivery or already passed before it was even delivered. I ran out the previous month earlier than usual and ordered an extra one that was delivered on July 15. That box had a best before date of July 31. I thought that was terrible to get old tea. Normally you get 3-6 months. But I didn’t do anything about it. Then I get my usual monthly subscribe order and it got delivered yesterday, Aug 4th, and the same best before date on this new one is also July 31 2020. While tea is still drinkable I should not get expired tea. Unless the vendor does something about this, I am canceling my subscription order because they might send another one next month with the same date. So disappointed that I need to find another tea or I may have to drive a half hour to a British store that sells this brand. At least I can see the date before buying.
Quality Rules : Best Assam Tea
This is the most flavorful Assam I have found. I've been buying this loose leaf pure Assam for years by Taylors of Harrogate. I buy the one in the box as it's the same as the one in the tin. The tin is lovely, but recently I bought a couple of of small air tight canisters for the tea, coffee & cardamon. I highly recommend this Assam.

I have not been able to figure out how to make a proper cup of tea with this. It was not a cheap tea. It's a large can, supposedly a fancy blend, but it doesn't taste like anything I've ever had before. I don't even know if I like it. I like everything I've tried from this company and I thought I'd try a new flavor but this has got a very bizarre taste. I've tried putting more tea, less tea, more time, less time, more water, less water. I cannot figure out what the recipe should be! And there is no real indication on the can so I am not sure what to do with this. Compost?

I let it brew and (second red flag) the whole kitchen smelled like a wood stove - or rather the smell of backed up smoke from a wood stove that saturates your clothes and lets EVERYONE you you come in contact with within a 10 ft radius that you have a wood stove, a faulty wood stove - and then the third red flag... after it was brewed, it looked like bong water and the final red flag, which is no longer a red flag at this point but a big 'i tried to tell you" kind of situation... the taste assaulted my taste buds for HOURS and literally made me feel like I had licked a piece of charred wood pulled from the fire pit. NOT GOOD.
Now, granted, this might be someone's idea of a good tea and I can only imagine it would be a heavy smoker with no taste buds, but as for me... this tea has turned me off from ANY TEAS from Taylors & Harrogate. I just don't trust any products from this company now.

Sandra Dyl : Nice mint tea. Peppermint rather than spearmint.
My husband and I both love mint tea, and Moroccan mint is our favorite. But! This tea is peppermint, while others we have bought have been spearmint. I love this tea, but my husband doesn't like peppermint. If you don't care which mint the tea is, this makes a very nice cup of mint tea.
The only complaint is how expensive this tea is, although other brands are just as expensive.

It is oddly bitter. I'm a bit spoiled perhaps cuz I just ran out of my favorite Yunnan Dian Hong Gongfu and have been casting about for a replacement but this is not it.

This delightful blend is reminiscent of the Breakfast Tea I had at The Cardinal Tea Room in Montreal. I had been trying to find something similar, after my stash from them ran out. As they do not ship, to the US or otherwise.

I've tried several teas from this brand before so I had high hopes for this, and it was kinda...meh? The fragrance is absolutely lovely, as I expected from a rose tea, but the actual tea I find overpowers any of the floral I'd expected. It's tea and it's drinkable. I was expecting more flavor from the rose than I'm getting.
V.L. : An easy-drinking black tea with a delightful rose scent
The China Rose Petal tea smells strongly of roses, completely covering the tea-ness, so it was difficult to get a sense of what I was going to taste. Brewed at 1tsp/250mL of water for 3min, with water about 30s removed from heat after boiling--what can I say, I'm impatient. The flavor is solid, only a little rose-water on the tongue, and the tea itself is malty & moderately astringent. (I like that in my teas; YMMV.) Texture is light on the tongue if you've followed the instruction not to add milk. If you can't stand your tea without milk, it will lend a richer texture and bind all those tannins that you might not enjoy. A bit of sugar brings out faint earthy notes, but I like it best with a generous teaspoon of acacia honey. The honey has its own gentle floral scent that complements the rose top-flavor, without overpowering the deeper ones.
If you're looking for something to drink like a fine wine, this tea isn't for you--nor are any mixed teas. It's not too fancy for everyday use, but still nice enough to serve when having a friend over for a cuppa. (May we soon be able to do that without isolating ourselves for a couple weeks beforehand.) HalKid2 : Just like Tea in Morocco
During a visit to Morocco I became accustomed to the daily sweet tea that was a sign of hospitality everywhere. Their tea combines mint and green tea leaves, just like this one. I decided to see if this product came close in flavor. And I'm happy to report it tastes JUST like I remember. Now I just need to figure out how much sugar to add to each cup. (Some people did drink their tea without sugar, but I'll never be one of them.)

I waited a good long time to write this review. At the time I bought it, I didn't have my other favorites on hand: TH Scottish Breakfast, TH Yorkshire Gold, Red Label (for chai) or Empress Hotel tea from Victoria, BC. I still don't have the Empress tea to make a direct comparison so I'll update my review when I get that one again, as this Doomur Dullung is now my #1 favorite, tied with Empress Tea.
This tea is soft, rich, complex and deep and makes my tongue curl in a delicious mouthwatering curve. I taste in shapes and textures, and this tea provides a soft, delicate yet rich and deep double wave in my mouth. It's quite remarkable, really.
At first I liked it but didn't think it was anything *that* special. Then I tried it again after a few weeks of only Scottish Breakfast (my other standby favorite to go with cream and sugar) and it was really gorgeous, and I noticed the complexities much more.
For brewing, I would recommend *not* following the traditional English instructions. Instead, I prefer this tea much more and find the flavor develops to more richness and complexity if I drop the leaves into boiling water (still on the stovetop), stir around for 10-15 seconds and let it boil, then remove from heat, cover for 5 minutes and strain. This is closer to the Indian method. As this is truly an Indian tea, perhaps its best qualities come out this way. It also makes great chai, blended with Scottish Breakfast.
This is definitely an outstanding tea, worth having in your cupboard if you are a connoisseur. If you like Lipton or PG Tips (both pale and weak to my palate), I would guess you might not want to bother.

This is definitely a “you get what you pay for” tea. It has bet mild flavor, and the “leaves” resemble coffee grounds, not loose tea leaves. See my picture where I have actual loose-leaf tea on the left and the pile of these clippings on the right.

This tea was a complete letdown (other than the nice tin it comes in). Firstly it isn’t a full leaf tea (Stated as leaf on the tin)...the way the tea looks resembles coffee grounds. Terribly strong yet bland taste that could be achieved from grocery store Lipton tea bags (not even their premium stuff). Certainly wouldn’t buy again...

In general I've been pleased with all of the Taylors of Harrogate teas (they are, after all, an English tea institution), and for the price I can't complain. I wish it had a little bit more of the fruitiness that Assam can display, but again, given the price I can hardly argue; and I understand that this is more of a mass-produced item (despite the brand, this is not a boutique tea). On the other hand, as I've become a bit of a tea snob, or maybe just a connoisseur, I feel that for a bit more money I could get a better Assam that might completely satisfy me. I'll have to mull that one over, possibly over a cuppa, and see if I can come up with a decision. In the meantime, this has become one of my three mainstays, a fall-back-upon tea that I go to in the morning, reserving my finer, more expensive or special teas for later in the day once I've woken up a bit and my tastebuds have come alive.

I didn't really use it to make hot tea but rather iced tea and it tastes good, fresh and healthy for a cold brew. Has a fair price too. I also liked the tin as it keeps things tidy and fresh.
