This used to be fine cut, perfect for a drip maker. The last bag I bought was loose cut. Is that a permanent change?

Answer: I've been drinking this tea for years and all of my purchases have been what I'd consider fine cut. They are not leaves/or stick like at all. I use a French press with a "FINE" screen or else a fine mesh insert when I travel (yes I'm nutty enough to bring my own loose tea on cruises). I've purchased several kilo bags in the last year and all have been consistently fine - perhaps you just got one that was "off". Hope this helps.

does it come in decaf?

Answer: the are decaf versions i do not think they taste as good

Is the bag the tea comes in recyclable?

Answer: There is no interior bag. The exterior, and only, bag is plastic with a metallic-looking interior, and due to its contact with food is not recyclable in most areas even though the tea doesn't leave a deposit on the bag's surface.

Answer: No. You could use clips to store something else in it as the bag does have some substance.Re-purpose for a re-usable sandwich bag?

Answer: The bag is metallic, soft and pliable. That's all I know. It would be more likely to break down over time than aluminium foil.

Any recommendations on how to store this lose tea?

Answer: Assuming you are referring to this large bag, once I open it I place some of it in metal tea tin of the same brand which I picked up in Heathrow years ago, it keeps well in this tin. (You could also use a Tupperware type container. I then fold down the bag which is what’s left of the original container and use a few metal clips to keep the bag closed and I have never had the tea go stale. Good luck! This is a really good strong basic black tea, highly recommended.

Answer: I store mine in an airtight glass container, though traditionally tea was stored in a tin “tea caddy” with a tin lid that wasn’t airtight. If you need to store it longer-term, use a ziplock bag.

Answer: When you purchase tea bags you are also paying for the bag itself. Loose tea is weighed without any packaging...more tea. Also, I've found that most tea in bags is almost dust...not sure about Yorkshire Gold as I've not tried their bagged tea.

Answer: Expiration dates change as time goes by. Asking about prior orders will only give you expiration dates for that particular batch and time of order. We have never received "outdated" tea. If you don't anticipate using a kilo bag in 2 months, order the smaller bags.

Answer: I have never received powder. Possibly, your package was roughly handled in transport, although being reduced to powder would be rather extreme.

Answer: Loose tea should not be a powder, rather small pieces of tea leaves. Unless you ordered a bag that specifically said “powder” you might consider contacting seller to find out what is going on or return product if it states “tea leaves” and you received a powder.

An English gentleman recommended that I try the Yorkshire Gold and who am I to argue about tea with an Englishman? Well, I didn't so I ordered this and I was not disappointed. Now I only have to master the tea brewing process as this one is not very forgiving for the steeping time, leave it in a tad too long and you will notice.

I looked forward to receiving this tea as it was talked up to me by my Brit friends.

I can't even explain how disappointed I am. I wanted to love it but im not even sure I like it. It's cut very small, basically dust. I can't imagine drinking it without milk and sugar. So bitter.

I must admit to being a a bit of a tea snob; though perhaps not the 'right' kind of tea snob. I judge tea on how it tastes, not by how I think it should taste based on its price. I disappointed a tea lover once by not saying that my favorite tea was Darjeeling - which I find to be just a little flat. I like my black tea to have a strong reddish color and a good bite of tannin. I drink it brewed strongly and quickly, with a touch of sugar and a splash of milk. I expect it to be fragrant, with just a touch of smoke. I have used Twining's loose leafed teas and like them, though perhaps not quite as much. I have used one or two more expensive loose leafed teas in tins and I like them, too. I have tried a few Tazo teas and have found it impossible to get the tea strong enough, even when using ten or twenty times the tea (by cost, not by weight)! Taylor's of Harrogate gives me a rich, dark, strong brew with good bite. It may be just a bit less fragrant than really expensive teas, but I love the flavor.

Those who drink tea occasionally and like to look at the tins on the counter will likely find those to be a good value. Those who guzzle half a gallon of tea a day may find that they save a little money buying tea in these huge foil pouches. And they can do so without giving up any flavor or fragrance. Sealed in these large foil bags, I find the tea to be at least as fresh and sprightly as that in any tin. I move it in batches from the bag into an old tin that I keep on the counter. The bag I keep hidden in the cupboard, sealed with a clip, and seem to use it fast enough that it always seems fresh.

Like others here, I tend to be a bit of a self-confessed tea 'snob.' Why not, though? the Cofeeistas all vaunt and thrust about. America is not a country much enamored of tea (though the rest of the world is); what a shame.
I have bought this tea for several years for early morning draughts of the delicious reddish-brown tea it delivers. I buy other, much more expensive teas for use later in the day, when I am more awake and less concerned with something to kick me into gear. That may make it sound like I consider this 'fuel,' which I don't. It is really good basic tasty tea. Nothing fancy, mind you: but a good solid value for your money, far surpassing anything you can otherwise buy from the shelves of your local store. Twinings, for example, tastes like mud alongside this!
All that said, I don't think I have ever ordered this tea that it arrives on time as scheduled. Not sure why this is the case, but it means on a pretty consistent basis that whenever I order the tea, I have about 2 weeks of tea left and always run out before the next bags arrive as scheduled. Maybe UPS is at fault, or maybe the seller, or maybe customs, or everyone of the above. At any rate, if you like it as I do, be sure to order it a good month to six weeks ahead of when you expect it, or, like me, you will be falling back on those inferior brews for 10 days while waiting for somebody, somewhere to do their job correctly and deliver this very nice product to you, the impatient customer, and to me.

I have the problem of being a tea snob, but I have trouble brewing fancy tea at home with the same success of a tea shop. It's also quite an expensive habit. The Yorkshire Gold Tea is my compromise. Is it as good as the high end brands? Of course not. But it makes a great, strong black tea cuppa and is simple to brew. The brand is far and away better than any black tea in a bag I have ever made. I love that this brand is consistently good. And purchasing it on Amazon is so much more affordable than the gourmet grocery stores it's sold at in Minnesota.

I love purity, and loose leaf tea is no exception. I'd chosen this product after a few runs of the Davidson's brand, opting for greater variety. This tea is excellent! The leaves are finely shredded, the aroma and taste is full-bodied, and produces a beautifully clear color. The tea is also Rainforest-Alliance certified, so purchasing this tea promotes economic and ecological sustainability. Be advised that this tea contains a lot of fine particles, and those who are not accustomed to such realities will be dismayed to see some fine silt settling in the teapot (and one's own cup). It's not much, and it doesn't bother me at all, but lest someone leave a negative review out of plain ignorance of what loose-leaf tea is...and isn't...it's something that must be mentioned.

I'm very pleased with this tea, and would certainly buy it (or similar products under this brand) again.

I don't know, maybe it's just me but the tea is less full bodied and has less flavor than twinings tea bags from the store. The tea itself looks like little tea crumbs and smells like old socks while steeping. I'm not claiming to be a tea expert but I guess I just expected more. It's not bad but ii"s just not a premium blend, in my opinion. I'm going to try another variety and see if maybe it's more to my taste.

UPDATE: with the price recently almost doubled to over $30, no longer a bargain. Still good commercial-grade CTC tea, but I'll move over to orthodox Assams or blends for this price. Sic transit etc.

IMNSHO, this is the best widely available English breakfast tea, with an outstanding flavor balance and enough caffeine to frizzle the hair of an espresso addict. Works well hot or iced and as a base for flavored drinks (for those who would do such a thing). Not an old-style "orthodox" leaf, this stuff does have a fair amount of dust. Neither a tea-ball nor a sieve will remove that. But it settles, if one requires a perfectly clear brew.

In England, it's very reasonably priced, at about 20p/250 more than the regular ToH Yorkshire Tea. In the US, not so easy to find at all, and usually expensive. This big bag finally makes it affordable for serious imbibers. Repacked in glass or metal containers, it will keep well for months at least. If it seems like a lot of leaf, make a group buy and split the treasure, or repack as gifts - people will be grateful to learn how much better tea can be. Just be sure to include guidance on proper brewing, not well known.

I have liked this tea for years. It brews up strong and totally makes adding milk and sugar necessary, ha-ha! The color is my favorite, a deep red brown, you eat with your eyes as the saying goes (If I could get silk in this color, I would be wearing it all the time, the color is so deep and rich). It for sure has tannin to make for a depth of flavor when using milk, so if you don't like the tannin, brew lighter.

Yorkshire Gold is an excellent example of a standard English black tea. Tastes like what I would drink when visiting over there (but better for being loose leaf). The bag it comes in is the size and shape of a standard bag of coffee you’d buy at the grocery store.

Having tried out more teas in the hope of finding something decent, I broke down and thought I'd give the Yorkshire Gold another try - perhaps it had changed again. The mix of leaves was much better - there were a few bigger parts of leaves in the mix - compared to what was received before i.e. ground leaves and a lot of dust. To make a decent cup of tea I found was that I had to use a) filtered water (I use the water from the refrigerator that has a carbon filter, and b) reduce the steep time to 3.5 minutes. It's still not as good as it was for some reason, but better than I have been able to find loose or in a bag (yikes!)

Something has gone wrong with this tea! It used to be great - but on the last couple of bags (I buy the large loose leaf bag) I noticed the resulting tea was weak and tasted awful. I use a Breville automatic tea maker, so there has been no change in the process (the tea would steep for exactly 4 minutes). The tea leaves consisted of very finely cut leaves and a great amount of 'dust' - nasty low grade tea. So I am now cancelling my "subscribe and save" order and looking for a tea that tastes of tea!

Big Earl : Strong English tea that isn't weak after adding milk

Spending time up in British Columbia on vacation we always enjoyed the eye opening tea for breakfast. This is as strong as coffee in my opinion, it will wake you up. Great with a full breakfast or light finger sandwiches. Taste good with milk and sugar or better with just honey.

The flavor is good in my opinion but the tea is very powdery, even using a fine mesh tea ball I have a lot of sediment in the bottom of the cup...seems like siftings rather than shreds of tea leaf.

If you want this brand, I’d suggest going with the filter bags but since I want loose-leaf, I will be trying a different tea next time even though I like the flavor.

I purchased a few sampler pouches of loose leaf tea from a local tea shop and after trying them felt that the Yorkshire Gold was what I was looking for. I'm a coffee drinker (and use sugar only in coffee)... the nice smooth but strong flavor that this tea presented was right up my alley. I read a few reviews stating the tea had an off taste to it after purchasing it, but I am not getting anything like that at all, just the nice strong taste of a hearty tea. I am very happy with my purchase. I bought the tea May 2018, the "Best Buy" date on the package (8.8oz loose leaf) states September 2019.

heard great things about this tea... and was terribly disappointed. It's not loose leaf quality. I'm not even sure it's tea bag quality. Mostly a fine powder that I strain twice before I drink, and even then I don't drink the last swallow in the cup, lest I choke on pulverized bits of what I can only hope were at one point tea leaves. The flavor is also disappointing. If I put a lot of milk in it, I can stand to drink it, but that's about the best I can say. It's not a cup I look forward to.

I had read the descriptions here of finely chopped tea in this Yorkshire Gold Tea, but was really surprised to see how fine it was. One reviewer said it was like coffee and I have to agree. I do not have a strainer fine enough to trap all the tea and end up with extra on the bottom of the cup. That is my only reason for the deduction of 1-star for my review. I find the tea to be flavorful and milk compliments it nicely. I do not sugar up and simply like tea and a bit of milk. At work I will even drink it black. Delicious! My favorite black tea. Wonderful taste and aroma. My only caffeine, one cup of Yorkshire Gold for breakfast. Smooth and satisfying.

I keep a collection of looseleaf teas for making by the cup, but Yorkshire is my go-to for my occasional toast and pot of tea. I love it. I live in a small town in S.C. and finding looseleaf tea here is impossible. My teas come from England via Amazon. Growing up in the South, the only tea we had at home was looseleaf Tetley that was used for sweet (and I do mean sweet) iced tea. Now the only place I can find Tetley looseleaf is on Amazom. But for a perfect pot of hot tea you must try Yorkshire Gold. You won't be disapointed.

This is a solid 'first pot' tea for me in a rotation with Barry's Irish Breakfast or Taylor's Scottish Breakfast. This tea has a strong Assam presence . . . there is a minor bitterness to it, especially if brewed to long, but it also has a nice malty flavor I like. It is unfortunately composed of what I call 'tea dust' and is very light on the tea oils . . . still, a good and inexpensive tea.

I like the flavor of the tea. It's fresh and gives good aroma and color. But, I wouldn't call it "loose leaf". You won't see any leaves, because the tea is so fine and it leaves residue in your cup. I don't have any strainer fine enough to keep the powder out of my cup. I'm tempted to use cheesecloth...

This is a very good traditionally "black tea" tasting tea. It is not the least bit bitter if not over steeped. (5 min or so)

I use a metal mesh infuser. This tea is very very very fine, just this side of being powder. I get some grit at the bottom of the cup. Not a lot, and not enough to be a nuisance, however I can't drink the last drops. I didn't find it particularly strong or flavourful. I have nothing against it, I just don't prefer it to PG Tips or Stash Super Irish.
