Questions about Caykur Black Tea, Altinbas, 17.6 Ounce
Q:
What is the difference between the black, pink and yellow bags of this tea?
Answer: Dear Customer, Teas are generally of two types. Black and green tea. Green tea is produced by steaming the leaves without oxidizing them after harvest. Black tea, on the other hand, is produced by leaving the leaves to be oxidized with air after harvest and take their black color.
Answer: They are different blends from the same producers of the tea. It’s like Lipton Tea making a bold tea, mild tea or special blend. I have had the black & the yellow. The black is my favorite - distinct smooth flavor. Enjoy!
Answer: This tea is bulk tea so you prepare it traditionally by cooking/brewing it in kettle. I don't know the pink, yellow bags of this brand but I assume they are just tea in tea bags so you can prepare instantly by pouring hot water on the tea bag. But I would not recommend that method with Turkish tea. Turkish tea is meant to be prepared traditionally. It tastes better that way.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Altinbas is the highest grade of the Caykur brand teas, then there is Rize Caykur, followed by Tirkayi Caykur (that's what the turkish website says about their ranking). I do not know if being highest grade equals to better taste or strength, I think you need to try them out .
Q:
Is this tea whole dried leaves or crushed? If it is crushed, does anyone know which brand has the whole dried leaves?
Answer: This does not have the whole dried leaves; rather, the tea leaves seem more cut than crushed. I had this brand of tea when I was in Turkey, and I brew it every morning to start the day.
Answer: There is really no whole-leaf tea in Turkey. This is crushed, dried (fermented) black tea. Whole tea leaves do not brew very well. For that reason, most tea-loving cultures either crush or roll the leaves, such as Chinese, Japanese, Turkish or Russian.
Answer: Crushed tea leaves. I like the brand and use it all the time. Soft flavour and quality brand. And it is genuine Turkish tea.
Answer: "The bud on the top and two little fresh leaves just below it are the secret of Altınbaş tea. Tea gourmets recognize Altınbaş on the spot! It has the highest rate of golden-headed and curled tea leaves." (https://www.caykursatis.com/altinbas-classic-100-gr-can) Purchased it at a local gourmet food shop.
Answer: This is crushed and does not really taste as Turkish tea.... I bought that and just threw it away. Buy Ahmed Tea. But this one and you will love it! http://www.amazon.com/AHMAD-TEA-CEYLON-OPA-Largest/dp/B0011010XY/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396980007&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=ahmad+tea+longest+leaf
Answer: It consists of small bits of whole leaves. Not whole leaves, and not instant. The stuff you would find in tea bags. I use tea infusers and love the tea . The bag says it 'a pesticide-free.
Answer: These are crushed. Not sure who has a good whole leaf black tea.
Answer: I would recommend looking at non-Turkish Black teas. All Caykur teas are very finely chopped, possibly to help with the traditional Turkish way of brewing. And there are no private tea producers in Turkey that I know of, i.e. all tea commercially grown in Turkey is handled by state-owned Caykur.
Answer: Its crushed with a strong tasty flavor and nice dark amber color. As for whole leaves... i dont know
Answer: The leaves are crushed. I have not seen dried leaves anywhere in this country.
Q:
Is this exported from Turkey and packaged somewhere else?
Answer: This must be exported from Turkey. Turkey is a tea producer and international brands do local production, but Çaykur, a state owned company, doesn't have overseas production. I checked their website to be sure.
Answer: It is packaged in Turkey. I saw this brand of tea, with this packaging, in Turkish grocery stores. It is grown in the Black Sea region.
Answer: I believe that it's packaged in Turkey.
Answer: I can say that it is exactly like the tea I purchased in Turkey. Caykur Black Tea tastes exactly like the tea that I had in Turkey.
Q:
do you deliver direct to saudi arabia ?
Answer: We do ship to all countries allowed by amazon.com. This statement is valid if you buy the product from Tulumba Marketing.
Answer: Unfortunately we are not able to send food items to overseas.
Q:
Why isn't this tea certified organic if no pesticides are used?
Answer: Why not ask the company that makes the tea?
Answer: Becoming certified organic and maintaining that certification is an expensive process. Not every food producer finds it worth the expense. They may meet some or all of the criteria to be labeled "organic" yet still not wish to pay for the certification.
Answer: Organic foods have specific requirements to be named organic which this product does not meet.
Q:
What is the caffeine content? Any feedback on the pick me up it has?
Answer: I don't think it's any more or less than other black teas, likely 50 mg or so per cup. Compared to other loose teas I regularly drink, this has a cleaner, sharper taste.
Q:
I didn't get the tea pictured in the description. second time in the row. did the label change ? i got altinbas klasik, dogal, siyah cay
Answer: You got the classic altinbas black tea. I expect only the wrapper changed.
Answer: I just answered a similar question. Most Turkish tea is produced and packaged in the same region. Different distributors have their own brand image and packaging however when imported, I guess the distinction gets lost in the system. However, they do taste pretty much the same.
Q:
I love this tea until today. i received my order on june 4, 2021 and the tea expires on june 25th. why is it not returnable?
Q:
What type of "black tea" is this? Is it a blended tea (if so, which teas?), or all leaves from one type of tea? I'm not familiar with Turkish tea.
Answer: All leaves are from one type of tea
Answer: in General the Turkish tea is very good, this is black leaf tea, but the leaves are cut.
Answer: Just black tea, no blend, I'd recommend Caykur Rize Tea, same brand, package color is yellow, it's black tea as well. For some reason, the Altinbas develops a very slight "sour' taste when it cools. Nothing very bad, but I've had better luck with the Rize tea.
Answer: This didn't taste like the tea we had everywhere in Turkey. And it won't taste like any American or English tea you are used to.
Answer: To be honest, I don't know. However, it makes a good smooth cup even if you brew strong. It is fantastic with a little pinch of cinnamon and honey.
Q:
How fresh is this tea? I don't want to buy surplus old dried out inventory... how close to the date on the pkg did you receive the tea?
Answer: The tea I have received in the past has always been fresh. I do not have the packaging in front of me because when I get it I transfer it to an airtight container. So unfortunately I cannot check the date for you.
Answer: I don't recall, but it pretty good when freshly made. But for me, I liked the Caykur Rize Tea (yellow package) better. With the Rize tea, if you make too much for one sitting, then heat the remainder later to finish it, it still tastes really good. The black tea didn't hold up as well, you have to make only as much as you can drink on one sitting.
Q:
Received a different product from the picture shown in amazon
Answer: That happened to me as well. That's because Turkish black tea is produced in the same region and packaged and distributed by different companies who have their own logo. I've tried them all and they taste more or less the same .Caykur/ Rize Caykur is the main producer that is a govt entity. I wish they did a better job of identifying the brand image on the package but unfortunately that is not the case. Nevertheless, they do taste almost the same
Q:
What does it mean that this product is labelled to United States standards and may differ from similar products sold elsewhere.
Answer: It means it IS ALSO acceptable by US standards. It does not mean it is not permissible for other standards.
Answer: The answer is the expire data US standard is 2 years, places elsewhere is more according to real 1 year.So as good traders the Turkish just send old tea to US, which taste or smell nothing ,as a tea lover I tried all turkisk brands ,same problem, old tea.
Product reviews of Caykur Black Tea, Altinbas, 17.6 Ounce
Jon : Feel like we are in Turkey
If your used to Turkish Cay this it's the brand for you
Cheff Jeff : Tasty Tea at a Good Price
This tea tastes good and is a good bargain. It has a relatively mild flavor that mixes well with other teas but enough body to drink alone. I like to mix it with green tea and hibiscus flowers and drink it hot or as iced tea. It is a bit "dusty" with small tea particles that tend to filter out of a tea ball and settle at the bottom of the cup or pot but I wouldn't take a star away just for that.
katokatEE : Clear and lucid
Fragrant, tasty, full and bright. Sensation of extreme lucidity and clarity of vision and mind.
D. Dulicai : A warm deep Turkish experience.
If you like warm treats on a cold day or like me you drink hot tea all the time. This is the richest tea available in the U.S. My first try many years ago was in Turkey but now I can buy it here.
Larry Sheppard : Favorite Tea
This is my favorite Turkish tea. Very flavorful. I drink about 3 lt. a day.
Lula Torintza : Yum...
Bought it for my teenager who is suddenly into tea. He says it's great. A lot of tea for the money. I tasted it too and it's very good. Not bitter.
C. M. Bryant : Four Stars
Delicious and at a good price.cant go wrong.
Headphone Pilot : Excellent Black Tea
This is one of my favorite teas. I don't want to get pretentious, but it has a good strong flavor that is a good contrast to the Chinese teas I often brew. It's a black tea, so it's a fine powder not individual leaves. I don't worry about traditional Turkish brewing and serving practice -- this works great in my cast iron Chinese tea pot and poured into my sturdy mug.
Sheridan : sweet tea. Best when you use traditional Turkish Tea ...
I always use this kind for turkish tea. It makes a rich, sweet tea. Best when you use traditional Turkish Tea glasses.
David A McDonnel : Love this tea
Love this tea. I tasted Turkish Black Tea several years ago when traveling in Turkey. I've been drinking it ever since. I even bought a Samovar teapot, Turkish Tea Glasses & saucers to complete the experience. This is the best true Turkish tea I've found. Remember make it very strong and sweet!
TheQueen ???? : Great black tea for tea lovers
This tea is The Black Tea Lovers ...
Great flavor you must know how to make it perfect. Very happy with this purchase. I would recommend it. I also bought the Turkish cup set along with the tea and I couldn’t be happier with my purchased.
Tonita H. Rowden : Outstanding
I could not find Turkish Black Tea anywhere in San Diego; but thanks to you, I have been very happy with this wonderful tea.
ct_djr : Delicious tea
Wow!! The is REALLY good tea. Delicious!! We just got home from a few weeks in Turkey, and this stuff is "the real deal". Not spiced, flavored, or fruited up - just really, really good Black Tea flavor. Definitely will tag this a "favorite".
Larry Sheppard : Favorite Tea
This is my favorite Turkish tea. Very flavorful. I drink about 3 lt. a day.

Amazon Customer : Great taste!
The best black tea ever!
Albert Khodabakhsh : One Star
Bad tea.
Kim : Delightful suprise
I have never tried a Turkish tea. So while searching for the best price on my regular orders, I found this. Hmm sounded good, thought I should try something different. Yummy. Very nice full bodied tea. I always make my teas into iced tea, as I am an addict. I usually go for a nice Irish Breakfast, or a Ceylon. I just like the pure tea flavors those provide. However I am now adding this into my regular rotation. Just really a nice tea! Its a lovely reddish golden color. It is a powdery tea. So make sure you use a very fine mesh in your infuser. I am very happy with this purchase =)
Price Shopper : Four Stars
Did not use as I purchased it for a gif.
Rahul Wagh : Awesome Flavor!
Awesome flavor! Really enjoying our Turkish tea!
Oktay Guliyev : Terrible
Terrible tea
Serkan Okar : Great tasting black tea
I used to buy this from a local farmers market that has Middle Eastern/Turkish section but they have been out of this product for a long time so I decided to search for it here on Amazon. I was happy to see this on Amazon for the same price. This is a great tasting black tea for strong taste tea lovers. My only criticism is about the packaging. I wish they used re-sealable packaging. Once opened you may want to transfer to another container for freshness. I know most Turkish companies are not manufacturing/using sealable bags.
fractalsrule : Delicious iced too!
This tea is delicious!! It makes a flavorful concentrated tea that holds up and doesn't bitter as it continues to steep. It also doesn't lose flavor as it cools. If you drink it hot--add hot water to the strong brew. I also like it iced, which I know is not the Turkish way, but, it is a wonderful way to enjoy this tea!
Dr Einstein Von Brainstorm : tasty strong tea
I dont have much to say ... it is a very tasty strong tea!!! you need a proper tea kettle to brew the tea though

Romelia Valles : Tea lishous
LOVE LOVE this tea so smooth and tasty
yalch⭐ : The only best true Turkish tea brand out there
The Caykur black tea from Rize, it is an unconditional love. Don't look anywhere else, learn how to brew correctly, get a traditional Turkish tea pot and you are ready to get hooked up! gotta have it at least twice a day!
DAC_Houston : It's a very smooth Turkish tea
We like this tea better than the red-bag version as it's smoother.
The bag it comes in, tears too easily, and needs to be repaired with packaging tape to keep it useful.
Sal : strong, smooth with no bitterness
I love all Caykur Turkish teas, This is my favorite . Makes a great Ice Tea! Just as good hot.
leshawn alphonse : Five Stars
Not your typical black tea...the flavours are enhanced with every sip.

If your used to Turkish Cay this it's the brand for you
Aleksey Uzinsky : Easy way to brew Turkish tea.
This is the best tea to brew in a thermos, just add 2 to 3 teaspoons of tea directly into the thermos (650ml size) and then put boiling water in. After 10 - 15 minutes the loose leaf tea sinks to the bottom and it's ready to enjoy.
The thermos prevents the boiling water from cooling too quickly.
Netsanet Fliegelman : Great ☕️ tea
I bought this a while ago but my husband lovesssss it!!!! I love the rest of it too!
Sheridan : sweet tea. Best when you use traditional Turkish Tea ...
