Questions about Monin - Violet Syrup, Mild and Floral, Great for Cocktails and Sodas, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO (750 ml)
Q:
why’s this advertised as sugar free under Made authentic flavorings sourced from around the world, when there’s cane sugar in it?
Answer: I don't know where you are seeing this Monin Violet Syrup advertised as "sugar-free" because this particular one certainly is not which is why I bought it. The description is as follows: "SPECIFICATIONS: Allergen Free, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Halal, Kosher, No Artificial Colors, No Artificial Flavors, No Artificial Ingredients, No Artificial Preservatives, No Artificial Sweeteners, Non-GMO, & Clean Label". I did not find the description of "sugar-free" anywhere. ????
Q:
does this syrup have propylene glycol in it?
Answer: Here is the ingredients list:
Answer: No
Answer: No
Answer: No
Q:
Does this contain any soy ingredients? They’re often hidden in natural flavorings
Answer: I do not believe so. The ingredients listed are pure cane sugar, water, natural flavors, vegetable juices (for colour). It is vegan, gluten-free and GMO free.
Answer: The bottle doesn't directly say, but it does have their customer service number, which I can't publish here.
Q:
Does it need refrigeration after opening?
Answer: The label does not indicate. I have kept it room temperature with no problem, and now keep it in the refrigerator, as I don’t use AC in the summer. Nice product- great flavour. A little goes a long way.
Answer: I have kept mine on the shelf in my kitchen with no adverse effect. It has been more than a year since it was opened.
Answer: No but we keep it in a cupboard
Answer: No, not necessary.
Q:
Why is this product advertised as sugar free when there’s cane sugar as one of the ingredients? Isn’t that misleading and a potential liability?
Answer: I’m sorry, I never noticed this discrepancy. I adore this syrup, the way i adore violet candies from Madrid. It contains pure cane sugar, natural flavours and vegetable juice. It is vegan, gluten-free and GMO-free... all natural, with a pleasant, almost magical flavour. And it will safely last in your fridge for a very long time (if you can resist it!).
Answer: The Amazon advertising says gluten free. I have been using this product for quite some time because there isn't any corn syrup. And because of the cane sugar. But they do have sugar free products. Just look at their store.
Answer: It definitely contains sugar. I don't see it marketed anywhere as sugar free though.
Answer: I would also like to know, would love to find floral extracts that are pure, such as Sakura, Rose, Violet, Orange Blossom - etc.. One may always add sweetner if desired. A question for Monin
Q:
What is the difference between the Violet Lavender and the Lavender syrups?
Answer: I have only been using the violet syrup. It's light and floral as it should be. Lavender is a much heavier and prominent flavour. You will need very little to get the desired taste but it won't give the same colour as the violet syrup. Some people like to combine the two for the double impact. I think they compete with one another with the lavender coming out on top when combined. To me it's a waste of the delicate violet. I would pick the standard violet over the lavender or any blend. But again, I'm partial to the flavour of violets. I hope this helps!
Answer: lavender tastes of lavenders, violet tastes of violets. the difference is not unlike that between apples and peaches, as far as fruit goes. lavender is more of a strong, in-your-face, a touch earthy, and reminiscent of "new baby" crisp attack on your nose- a powdery scent that works well in earl grey tea or vanilla ice cream. violets are sweeter, more mellow, smooth and balanced, reminiscent of "rose perfume" in its "yup, i definitely have a mouth full of flowers" feel- they are great as an herbal tea unto themselves, but it's also good with oatmeal, or a mixer with 7-up.
Answer: Two completely different products from two completely different flowers.
Q:
why’s this advertised as sugar free under Made authen flavorings sourced from around the world, when there’s cane sugar in it?
Q:
Received wrong item
Q:
Can you tell me what the ingredients in this is? I can't read them in the pic...too small
Answer: Pure cane sugar, water, citric acid, violet flavor FD&C Red #40, FD&C Blue #1
Q:
2 reIated questions. Is the bottle glass or plastic? I believe that the pumps for each are different and not adaptable. Is this so?
Answer: The bottle is glass. Pumps for 750 ml bottles fit the 750 ml and pumps for the 1 liter (plastic) bottles fit those. They 1 liter pump will not work properly with the 750 ml bottle. Each manufacturer has it's own pump. They may or may not work with other brands due to the threading. Thanks
Answer: Glass bottles and I did not purchase the pumps. The bottles are the same size.
Answer: It's glass. Don't know if a pump would fit.
Q:
How can they claim it has no artificial colors when the product clearly states it has FD&C red and blue?
Answer: The difference between "natural" and "artificial" flavors and colors relates to whether the chemical was derived (extracted) from a natural source, or whether it was created from stock reagents in a laboratory. Chemically, natural and artificial molecules are no different. The difference relates to how they were derived.
Answer: You have a good point - I don’t know. Personally, i use just small amounts at a time, the colour is pretty, but rather pale, and the flavour is simply amazing!
Q:
Is this made with actual violets?
Answer: No, it is synthesized.
Q:
I still haven't received a replacement for the broken mess I received when ordering this almost 2 months ago. Can I just get a gift card for this?
Answer: I do not know, try to contact the seller - or Amazon.
Q:
why’s this advertised as sugar free under Made with authentic flavorings around the world, when there’s cane sugar in it?
Answer: I don't know maybe you should write the manufacturer
Q:
I want to make dinner mints like the c. howards lavender mints. is this what i would use?
Answer: No. UseBakto VIOLET, LAVENDER, JASMINE, ROSE 4 Flavors Pack Bottles: Natural, Kosher Collection For Baking and Cooking Food items! 1 OZ Bottles https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077QN4DKR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.NU5Fb1C41W57
Answer: I don’t think it will work because I have tried the syrup in some desserts and tried to make jelly and the taste was not that of the French violet ofToulouse I am used to. I believe that an extract or essential oil would be more appropriate. This syrup is meant for the confection of drinks
Answer: I’ve never made candy with this, but I think it would work. This has a very pleasant and distinct flavour, even when you use just small amounts. I have used it in drinks and cakes. I love this product, and the violet flavor as well.
Q:
Can I use this for baking?
Answer: yes. In the future just make a simple syrup out of lavender: Boil 1 cup of hot water for each cup of sugar, steep lavender 5 min and strain and add food coloring of choice. That is all this syrup is.
Answer: That’s an interesting idea. I love the deep true violet flavour of this syrup, so i would definitely try that.
Q:
why’s this advertised sugar free under”Made from authentic flavorings from across the globe” when there’s cane sugar in it?
Answer: This particular syrup (Violet) is gluten free, not sugar free. Monin offers many types of syrups, including sugar free, organic, premium, etc. That part of the ad is about Monin products in general and how they offer many different types of syrup. I prefer the cane sugar syrups because all sugar substitutes taste disgusting to me. Try reading the entire thing. Nowhere do they state that “all” their products are sugar free. Duh.
Q:
Can you make gummy’s with this?
Q:
Can you mix with coconut oil?
Answer: Yes, it mixes easily. However coconut oil has its own strong fragrance and flavour. You will still notice both the violet and coconut flavours.
Answer: I don’t see why not but it depends what use you have in mind for your concoction. I found that using this syrup for baking or making jelly was not particularly successful in terms of taste. I personally don’t care for the taste of the syrup itself which is far, far, far away from the taste of the French violette de Toulouse. I find it too artificial.
Product reviews of Monin - Violet Syrup, Mild and Floral, Great for Cocktails and Sodas, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO (750 ml)
Doofer : I love violet syrups and this is a good one.
Great taste, doesn't taste like a fake flower essence (not sure if it is or not but it tastes pretty durn good).
lowe love dogs : Beautiful ❤️
Haven’t opened it yet but the presentation is lovely
E. K. Lemons : Color different, taste same
Different from the French one, which contains artificial coloring. This one turns blue when added to a gin fizz. Tastes the same though.
Bev H. : I love experimenting with Monin Syrups
Tastes great. I use it in coffee and I also use it with other mixers like lemonade and vodka. Fantastic!
Amazon Customer : Lovely
Very nice product. Violet syrup is lovely in cocktails.
Mercy Sanchez : gray product I tried in Royal Carribean cruise lies in ...
gray product I tried in Royal Carribean cruise lies in a lavander martini with gray goose and a rim of sugar, and i fell I have a gem in my hand
Mara : Great taste!
Great product! Not too sweet, the violet taste isn’t too powerful or over taking. It mixes really well with coffee and vanilla tea.
Trotwood4E : Yummy and different -- an unexpected addition to many beverages.
Pretty in the glass and tasty if you enjoy more floral flavors. Good in lemonade or in my favorite summer cocktail: gin, lemon-flavored seltzer, splash of violet syrup and a lemon or lime.
lowe love dogs : Beautiful ❤️
Haven’t opened it yet but the presentation is lovely
Kayla Wendt : White chocolate violet
Taste soo good in coffee
lowe love dogs : Beautiful ❤️
Haven’t opened it yet but the presentation is lovely
Donna Trotter : Beware
I intended to purchase the Lavender flavor, accidentally purchased the Violet. (Shouldn't have ordered using my phone!). They do not allow returns or exchanges.
D : Not for ne
As others have said tastes soapy. Not a strong violet flavor that I was expecting like the candy or gum I use to get. Mine went to the trash after 3 tries. Monin does have other great flavors, just not this one.
Me : Monin is excellent
Monin Violet is wonderful. Add a dash or two to seltzer....tasty springtime drink!
oluoifade : Taste
I expected a stronger taste. You can hardly detected the taste of violets.
MorganMentions : Great for drinks
This stuff is legit great in margaritas, it sounds weird, but try it!
C. Mcintire : Very sweet!
I use this to sweeten my Lavender Dreams tea from Teavanna. The violets in that tea are the best part, but there are never enough. This solves that problem :)
Magali : Good but very sweet
A tad too sweet - adjust your recipees accordingly. And very purple... Ive had Violet syrup that are way lighter.
But taste is there so no complaints beside the « fake » look. Monin is always a sure shot.
John the Leprechaun : Make a Violet Sake
This is the home developed Violet Sake recipe of the drink of the same name offered at the Mouse's planned community theme park.
3 parts Violet Monin
2 parts Sake
2 parts lime la croix
1 part pear vodka
Serve on rocks, garnish with a lemon wheel. The La Croix adds drink volume, bubbles and a little flavor. Skip the La Croix, shake with ice and strain straight up for a martini.
Floy Grace : Makes a wonderful Aviation Martini
This is a fabulous syrup. I'll keep my pantry stocked with it. I use it for Italian Sodas and to mix in drinks. Makes a wonderful Aviation Martini.
Heather P : Taste like melted tootsie roll suckers.
Not good at all
Anon Ymous : Not bad, but didn't taste very violet.
It's tasty, but it doesn't really taste like violet to me. It's more fruity than floral, but at least it's not soapy.
Amazon Customer : Sweet violet
Love this it goes really well with gin and tonic brandy and champagne adds a lovely violet colour
Achey Feet : It’s a peaceful, reminiscent taste
Loved it lemonade!!!
Achey Feet : It’s a peaceful, reminiscent taste
Loved it lemonade!!!
Twig the Wonder Kid : Tastes like cough syrup
There is some violet flavor, but we mixed this with our beloved vanilla vodka and realized we’d concocted Robitussin. It’s just not flavorful enough to be worth fifteen bucks a bottle. It came nicely packaged though, and arrived quickly, so there’s that..
Amazon Customer : I dont like that it is so hard to find and when ...
The syrup is tasty . I dont like that it is so hard to find and when I do it is not prime. So even if I like I can't find another bottle.
Amazon Customer : Great favor
Tastes wonderful in lemonade
Starrylynx : Delicious Nice in Mineral Water
Violet love - add to water, over ice cream, or a cup of expresso - lovely color as well. Pleases my sweet desire, love of flowers & the color violet ????????????
Alisha : Great
I love it. Tried it in plain greek yogurt. HEAVEN! It's very sweet so a little goes a long way.
JenMS : Great stuff!
I just got a bottle of this, hoping to use it in cocktails, sodas, etc. I haven't tried using it as a mixer yet, but I have been just adding it to seltzer water to make an Italian soda (I call it "fairy soda" for my young nieces). It is very sweet (which is why I'm deducting one star) and not sure how it would hold up against other flavors, but even simply as a flavor for soda water, it's very refreshing.

Jo : a good additive
smells great....a good additive to whatever you want to use it for....makes a wonderful color.in a clear glass. Can't wait for the upcomong holidays to serve Aviators.
Sarah Langzettel : Love the violet syrup for champagne cocktails
Not only is it a wonderful simple syrup but it is used with only natural flavors. It is the most beautiful violet taste if you like Violet. I put it in Champagne and it is beautiful. I also use it to make mixed drinks Using vodka St. Germain and violent. Lovely lovely and it comes in a glass bottle As opposed to some of Monin's plastic bottles. which makes it even nicer... Thank you thank you I will definitely be ordering more of this
KWarner : Flavorful addition to my bar.
Delicious and a beautiful. I love violet flavored things, and this did not disappoint. It's good mixed with 7up.
Hannah : Delicious. Love it. My favorite.
I absolutely love this flavor. A coffee shop I used to go to used to have this syrup for italian sodas but they stopped carrying violet syrup. I ordered it and immediately was taken back to when I used to get them. I just mix it with San Pellegrino or whatever plain sparkling water.
Cath : Great for italian sodas
Not as flavorful as artisanal violet syrup but a good alternative for italian sodas.
Anonymous Texan Woman : Made a great Aviation cocktail
I want to make Aviation cocktails but can’t find the requisite Creme de Violette liqueur, so I used this instead and the resulting cocktail was so good! If you like floral cocktails and/or want to make Aviations, you’ll probably like this. Go easy on the syrup though - a little goes a long way. I used Hendrick’s gin but a lot of recipes recommend using Aviation gin.
Aviation Cocktail
2 oz Aviation gin
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur
1/4 oz violet syrup (maybe a little less)
Shake with ice until chilled and strain into a cocktail glass.
Donna T. : Creme de Violette substitute
Substitute for very hard to find Creme de Violette and it’s close.
D. Trees : I really wanted to love this, but I don't
I really wanted to love this, but I don't. I imagined a summer full of violet lemonade and other concoctions, but after my first violet lemonade trail it is sitting in the pantry. I prefer lavender lemonade. I think it just goes better together.
Floy Grace : Makes a wonderful Aviation Martini
This is a fabulous syrup. I'll keep my pantry stocked with it. I use it for Italian Sodas and to mix in drinks. Makes a wonderful Aviation Martini.
MW : Really good flavor
Great flavor, remind e of the violet candies from Europe I love as a child. The only thing I will change is the bottle, can improve with a different pouring, not so wide. I have to put the syrup in a small bottle with a smaller neck to pour small quantities since a small amount goes a long way. great for flavoring teas, I love to make snow cones with this too.
Patrick Lamasney (& family) : Not True Violet.
(Mrs. Lamasney, here) This tastes nothing like candied violets or violet pastilles. It doesn't smell very much like violet. Tasting the syrup itself, I could see why it was described as soapy. Violet has an in-your-face, super-feminine 'perfume' quality. Ironically, when I added a few squirts to my mineral water, it tasted like cologne! It's musky!
It's not bad; but not what I wanted. I'll have to figure out what to do with it.
Amazon Customer : Sweet violet
Love this it goes really well with gin and tonic brandy and champagne adds a lovely violet colour

T. Nooen : Violet is nothing Like Lavender, more like Grape
I bought this thinking Violet was just another name for Lavender but its not. This is more aligned to "grape" soda flavor than any flower. Otherwise, its the same great Monin quality.
Alisha : Great
I love it. Tried it in plain greek yogurt. HEAVEN! It's very sweet so a little goes a long way.
Donna T. : Creme de Violette substitute
Substitute for very hard to find Creme de Violette and it’s close.
